Get well soon. All my time on the IC during C25k was non running injuries so I know how frustrating it is. Suspect it is pilates he suggested. Very good for core strength and surprisingly hard work given you don't move that much. You are bound to find a class somewhere near you.
I do "planks" (google it) for core strength, and it seems to be working. Easy to fit in at home, too. Sorry to hear you have a sore back - sucks. I am prone to sore lower back, and I know how annoying it is. Hope you feel much better soon.
Hey Windoze, you have my fullest sympathy, ruptured a disk last year and know how debilitating back issues can be.
I have literally just got back from my weekly Pilates class and have been doing it now for the last 8 months, on the recommendation of my surgical spinal consultant.
Our cores get weak because we do not use the full range of muscles in modern life, spend too much time sat down, driving, at computers, watching tv etc.
The core is the important bundle of muscles around the trunk extending up the back to the back of the neck and down through the glutes and quads etc into the leg... it the bit that literally keeps us standing , moving and in balance.
If your muscle weaken, other muscles in the core will try to compensate to enable you to move or stay balanced and it is normally the weaker muscles that get injured.
Pilates will help with strengthening these core muscles , through gentle stretching and tensing exercises, there are various levels of exercise depending on the intensity of what you can handle. A good instructor will bring you through as a beginner and then be able to move you to intermediate etc as you get stronger and more competent.
Best place to look for back injury Pilates is through a qualified physiotherapy centre, they are usually more adept at dealing with us fragile souls and know what moves etc will be more beneficial for your injury type.
I wish you a speedy recover and hope you start to find some relief from the pain soon.
Also remember, rest is good, as the doctor has ordered but it is equally important to keep moving and flexing the muscles, so that they do not weaken even more.
Even if it is just getting up and taking a short walk 5 mins or so every hour to keep you from seizing up. ππ»
