What to wear when running early in the morning?

I’m going out before work tomorrow so I’ll be running at about 5.30am and I know it will be colder at that time of day. I was planning to wear my normal trousers and short sleeved top, with my windproof jacket, my hat and gloves. Hubby reckons I should also wear a body warmer and a long sleeve tshirt but I’m thinking it will be too warm once I get going. Any thoughts or advice??

Hmm. I run early morns, but just wear a long sleeve top, as I get pretty warm. Mind you, I am in London, and it's pretty mild here right now. Layers are your best bet, so you can take a layer off (and tie around waist) if too hot. Happy running! 🏃‍♀️

I run in the mornings but I go out a bit later usually around 6.30. At the moment I am still going out in a short sleeved top and so far have always been warm enough.

Thanks ladies. I normally run late afternoon / early evening and tend to wear my jacket for the warm up but take it off after that so I wasn’t sure about the morning. Will probably stick with my hat and jacket and then add the hat and gloves for extra warmth. They can always go in my pockets. Defo need the hat cos it’s scheduled to be bucketing down ☔️

A body warmer? In October? You would die of heat within the first 2k. I have never worn more than running tights, long sleeved top and light rain jacket, gloves and beanie howver cold it is. It is chilly when you step out of the door but you warm up very fast. Unless it is raining I usually ditch the jacket fairly soon. As long as you don't have exposed skin it's all good. there are some who insist on running in shorts even in the depths of winter but they are generally trying to make excuses for something.

That said, I do my weightlifting outside, and because if the relatively short times of actual work and the longish rest pauses, I have to bundle up in sweatshirts and layers upon layers.

Making excuses for something 😂

Think I’ll need to invest in a decent long sleeved top. I ditch my jacket after the warm up too cos it’s just too warm. I thought the body warmer was a step too far, lol

By the dreaded jingo you'll melt, went out 8.30 Tuesday evening running trousers and vest, didn't take long to warm up and by the time I got home was wet through with sweat

Wouldn't wrap up to much if I was you, possibly a light weight running jacket

It’s 14 degrees here at 5am tomorrow so still shorts weather as far as I’m concerned! Sorry Rignold! I’m not sure what I’m making excuses for but there’s bound to be something! 😂😂😂

Wore my hat and gloves for the warm up then it was back to normal clothing. Sooooo glad I listened to you guys and not him and left the extra layers at home. Really windy this morning but it was a warm wind so I would’ve melted!

For future, rule of thumb (they say) is to dress like it is 20 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the current temp. Not sure what that’d be in Celsius.
