HELP!

So today was Week 8 Run 1 - completed pretty easily - still a long way off being able to think about 5k in 30 mins šŸ˜± pace was comfortable but challenging but very steady - 7ā€™33 per Km. BUT disaster after - the last week or so Iā€™ve really crashed afterwards. I mean energy wise just really badly. Iā€™m drinking around 3 litres of water a day, not had a drink of the alcoholic type since 30th Sept and Iā€™m eating a really healthy carefully planned diet to fit in with my desire to lose weight sensibly - all planned out and balanced on My Fitness Pal - but the crash is getting worse. Wobbly and barely able to get off the sofa - so what am I doing wrong?

Too fast... maybe?

Just slow down a tad... the idea is to complete the 30 minute runs, comfortably :)

You could have a bug... maybe not sleeping well.. are you doing your stamina and strength exercise on rest days too..you need to up them a bit now the runs are getting longer:)

Thanks Oldfloss - sleeping better than I ever have - Iā€™m not working at the moment so completely no stress and I am doing my two regular strength sessions with my PT at the gym on rest days - I do have some serious nerve pain issues down my left hand side (long story but basically born with fused neck discs and hyper mobility). It Iā€™ve seen a Physio weekly for 8 years now so that is managed - I stretch well although my ITB on the left is flaring up quite a bit - and my neck. Do you think Iā€™m just not getting enough calories? Including exercise minused Iā€™m at about 1350 a day - Iā€™m losing about 2lbs a week which I thought was sensible...

Well...now you say that... maybe not enough...!

I know I have a healthy eating regime..but I find I need to pop the fuel in for my runs and other exercise...

Maybe take a look at this :)

Oh and I just did that test - oops - even on the losing weight calculation Iā€™m eating about 500 calories a day less than I should be - oh well an excuse to scoff chicken and tuna then!

Fuel up immediately before and after the run. I find taking a Snickers bar and eating half immediately before I run helps. Also drink about 0.5 L of water just before. Finish bar and drink as soon as I've done. Helps me-hope this assists

That sounds a bit like low blood sugar. Maybe have a little snack before you go or eat a couple of jelly babies on the way round. If it persists, might just be worth getting checked over.

Thanks all - I think you maybe right about the blood sugar - I havenā€™t had a Snickers in years as Iā€™m not a sweet tooth person but I do like them - will try that!

It does sound low blood sugar like. Do you have low blood pressure? The two together are a nasty combination, as I know from experience so if the sugar doesn't work you might want to get that checked.

Some say that you should eat within half an hour of a run to get maximum replenishment of depleted reserves, but frankly with runs of C25K length I would not have thought that would be relevant, but we are all different and it may help blood sugar.

Sounds like you're having the cartoon character moment when we see the blood drain from their faces, and they go all woozy. A bit of a banana maybe, or something to help keep the blood sugar levels up? Suck on a sweet or one of those fruit gel things? I make mini flapjacks, just bitesize and stuff them full of nuts and seeds...also did a savoury version too.

Thanks! You see all my problems would be over if only I liked bananas šŸŒ- I canā€™t stand them! Even the smell makes me want to - well you can guess! Will find a suitable alternative :-)

My husband is type 1 diabetic and he swears by a couple of liquorice allsorts to bring his sugars up. I crave jelly babies if my blood sugar is low and I don't usually have a sweet tooth. I don't think you need to 'fuel up' but just have a little sugar boost- if that's what it is.
