Just a few of the lovely little cars I found myself surrounded by as I finished W8R1 yesterday ... There were so many more in every colour imaginable, like jellybeans on wheels :)

That's such a lovely sight - what's the collective noun for a bunch of jellybeans on wheels?!

Certainly looking better there than they would here with little or no rust.

I imagine that, since it was a meeting of a Fiat 500 owners' club, their cars are probably their pride and joy and they must be very keen to keep them looking good!

One of my favourite events in Italy is the Mille Miglia, a major classic car race throughout the country - people come from all over the world to participate. It stops in Ferrara in the north, and in Rome, but in my opinion it's best seen in Ferrara. In Rome no-one pays much attention but in Ferrara it's one of the highlights of the year and the tiny city is taken over by these wonderful vintage cars.

I suppose they are to busy in Rome to pay to much attention to things like that. Oh don't worry about taking to long doing the runs there are people on here have taken months due to one thing or another but hope you get something sorted soon. My daughter may have been interested in au-pairing but she has now gone back to uni to do a post-grad course.

Great news about your daughter continuing her studies! You must be very proud. What's her subject?

I am. she is doing Archiving at Aberyswyth University as she is interested in History and she is also taking a crack at Latin

Wonderful! I regret not studying Latin earlier. We had the option but I chose German as the prevailing wisdom was that Latin is a "dead" language.

And then I ended up working in the Vatican...

Latin is a gateway to far more than you might imagine and objectively useful for a historian or archivist.

I have quite a few friends who studied at Aberystwyth and loved it (admittedly that was a long time ago!).

Didn't expect that did you but you must have no regrets. I'll have to let her know I think being the bright girl she that is why she is taking it apparently her lecturer is one of those eccentric types who loves his job. Oh long time in the future coming over to Rome next year after visiting Sorrento so if your still running might see your round the circus.

It was only this morning when taking Mrs GB to work that we had one of the new style Fiat 500 in front of us. Ugly looking thing. Like someone has shoved an airpipe up the back of the original one and blown it up like a balloon.

My mum and dad had a dark blue original 500 when we lived in England in the late 70's as a second car for going into town and shopping in. Was a great little car.

They are fabulous. My husband has an original white one in Puglia and it is so much fun.

Cute! My mum had a yellow/orange original one way back when we were young. She still tells the story that once she squeezed in 7 kids with fishing rods 😯 Happy days.......
