Second time around

I originally completed the couch to 5k in 2015, even working up to 10k that year. Unfortunately my feet and calves struggled soon after, enforcing a break. After a careful analysis and stretching program from a physiotherapist i tetatively returned to running but got stuck in a rut around the 1 mile mark. So, I'm back with Laura and hoping she can works wonders with me again. I managed a week4 run followed by a bike ride yesterday so am smuggly having a Sunday lie-in recovery phase today.

Any tips for second-timers? Particularly those who are overweight and rapidly approaching 50!

Follow the plan to the letter.

Take your rest days.

Don't compare how you managed last time with this time........whether it is easier or harder is irrelevant.......you are where you are.

I assume that you have proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis, which are the first essential in my book.

Keep posting and good luck.

Thanks! That was a very speedy response. Yes, i do need to get that gait analysis done and focus on prevrntion of injury not rehab. Some friends have recommended local shops where this takes place so I'll follow up on that advice

Hi Yvette

I'm overweight and rapidly approaching 50 - sounds like a blog group title.

I find gentle and slow jogging works as my weight is all top half and then skinny legs which means my knees take the strain.

I'm just finishing week 3 and only just at a stage where I am addressing my diet to help shift my weight. At first I just had to focus on the runs and nothing else. I've also run before but never followed any training. In just a few years my body is finding it much harder to begin again but I read the blogs from members who have a few years on me and they are kicking ass.

If they can. We can.

Thanks Lilybel. I'm sure we'll also get through!

I had to do it twice after rushing things, injuring myself and having six months off. Follow the plan and take your time. It’s a life style not a race. If it hurts stop and get advice. £40 with a physio may make all the difference. And keep getting inspiration on here. Good luck and happy running.

Thanks. I'll definitely go back to the physio if required
