Am I going down with something?!

Ok I think I may have officially caught the bug!! Is it normal that when I just got an unexpected tax refund the first thing I thought was great I can now treat myself to some new trainers and get a treadmill to go in “The son that has not left Home”’s vacant room?!?

I love running outside, but I know myself too well and absolutely HATE winter, so at least with a treadmill in the house I will have no excuses in the week. Weekend will not be a problem, but dark cold and wet? Ain’t gonna happen!! 😜

I'm afraid you seem to have a bad dose of the running bug. The only cure is to go out running three times a week - get it out of your system!

...or NOT get it out of your system...embrace the feeling :)

Ok will do!! 🤣🤣🤣

Dark cold and wet...? Why, it is superb! So exciting... I loved it...( apart from White van man who tried to drown me)

I do have an elliptical trainer for icy conditions though ( the one time I will not run:)

Yes.. I think you are hooked...:) Wonderful isn't it :)

Haha! You've got it bad. But Oldfloss is right, winter running is fab. After Autumn it's my favourite time of year. Just wear the right gear and away you go. But you'll have to get used to dripping nose syndrome 😏

Yes will embrace daytime winter running my all means but not happy out on my own round the dark lanes.

What is the right gear for winter?

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessGraduate in reply toCornet-Carolyn

Light thermal layers, a hat, gloves and a buff.

Someone else asked this question recently so here is the post with some replies.

Well you do need something to put in STHNLH's room 😉

Whilst I don't have much winter running experience I do have plenty of rain experience! I love it and am looking forward to chilly morning runs when the cold weather arrives.

Get out there in the elements and feel alive.

Spend the money on some waterproof running shoes and gear as opposed to a very expensive soon to be clothes horse.

I'm looking forward to winter running and rain after doing this program in 37C summer

Polly2810 profile image
Polly2810Graduate in reply toGingerBohemian

Not gonna be expensive gonna be 2nd hand just not confident out in dark lanes in my own as yet. Ease myself in gently!!

I won’t be getting a treadmill...I’ll be out there...snowycav..that’ll be me!!!

You can have my treadmill, it's cr*p!! :) Mind you it was relatively cheap. I have to run on it in an un-natural way (or maybe I'm just a messy runner!! :) ) so make sure you get one that's decent. Although I'm not sure home ones are that decent. I want a tax rebate! I fancy some trail trainers....

Toy could buy some warm weather run gear and get outside this winter

You soon get acclimatised 🙂 I thought I would surely die, being the world's biggest cold weather wimp, but I didn't I run in all weathers now 👍🏃‍♀️😃

Mummycav profile image

Lol...well if you have the bug then I must have it because I bought my Fitbit with my tax rebate a few weeks ago!!!! There’s no cure for it either..apparently!!

Ha ha what are we like??

I love the idea of the 'son who has not left' having a vacant room, soon to be filled with a treadmill....

Polly we do whatever we have to, I am now feeding a music and app download habit, I am allowed one download per run completed. Trouble is antet and Razouski keep telling me about new music I need. Yes you read that right, NEED.

Runners Anonymous beckons...

Hahha think they may have too many new members to cope with!! 🤣🤣

😆 it's hard to resist adding more to the playlist. I think I would be bankrupt if not for Spotify. But I'm missing out on your download incentive.

Mummycav profile image

Ooo, I’ve got an app called Musicon...everything you’ll ever need on there music wise...& it’s all free, no ads either, ads proper wind me up!!

I'm definitely in Runners Downloads Anonymous aka The Retro Runners. I now need (NEED) some Spandau Ballet (I think), and Baggy Trousers by Madness after watching a programme on BBC 4 on TOTP. 😂😂😂

And they what about Don't Tell Me by Blancmange?, jancanrun?

antet profile image
antetGraduate in reply toRazouski

Yay I've got Don't tell me on my playlist 😀

in reply toRazouski

So Spandau for sure and Madness including Embarrassment and Blancmange ooh I'd forgotten about them... you two are filling up my wish list nicely. Oh and for the sake of New Romantic balance I am wondering why I never ever had any Boy George/Culture Club... how did that happen. Considering at one time I had the full frilly shirt and knickerbockers look.OMG how tragic was that..glad Instagram and phone cameras weren't around then...

Oh my word some of the pics I have of the shiny dresses with “BIG” hair...my kids pee themselves when they look through my teens/early 20’s 🤣🤣

The Perm can I get over the embarrassment of looking like Angie from East Enders for most of my twenties... haircut shame

Polly2810 profile image

My perm was massive!! 🤣🤣🤣

Mummycav profile image

All hair & legs...that was me!! Very big hair...being a hairdresser I was in the right trade!!!

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to

The perm solution must’ve leaked through my scalp into my hair follicles because my hair is naturally curly now, it wasn’t then!!! 🙃

Razouski profile image
Razouski in reply to

Oh I had gold lamé knickerbockers and various frilly shirts. 😂😂😂

Mummycav profile image

That’s made me laugh...I was actually adding songs to my playlist on my phone when I was watching totp2!!! I’ve got ‘lip up fatty’ on mine now, that makes me laugh when it comes up...especially if I’m running past the greasy spoon or MacDonalds!!!

Razouski profile image
Razouski in reply toMummycav

Mr Razouski and I were both laughing at Lip up Fatty! I might need to add that too. 😂

Winter running is wonderful. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it last year as a newbie runner, but it's lovely when it's all crispy and bright.

You're welcome to join Retro Runners - group for the running playlist download addicts😉

Polly2810Graduate in reply toRazouski

Oh yes!! I love a bit of spandau!! Saw them in ‘85....omg that was 32 years ago!!! What about Rio...Duran Duran...I NEED that on my playlist!!
