Gad week one is a killer. Why did you walk in the third run? Did you have gremlins telling you you couldn't? Don't listen to them!
Go slow (like jog/shuffle just above walking pace) and know that you CAN do it. I practically expired during week one, like everyone else and hey, I just graduated! Of course people respond differently but if you go back and read graduates posts we were all just dying in week one, wondering how it even might be humanly possibly to run for 30 minutes. I was, and now I really can run for 30 minutes. Astonishing.
As ejvcruns says, week 1 is a surprisingly hard week, you don't realise how hard until you do it, which we all have done and we all remember it, even people who have graduated a long time ago.
Slow and steady, again, as above, a light jog should allow you to reach the end of each run, don't worry about speed or distance, focus on getting to the end of the run.
Believe it or not, each run you do signals your body to change, your lungs start to adapt to the higher oxygen requirement and your stamina levels start to increase. You may not notice this as it's small changes but stick with it, the program wasn't thrown together, it was devised to get people running for 30 minutes safely (providing you have no underlying health conditions that is).
By the time you hit week 3 you will start to amaze yourself, by the time you reach the end of week 5 you WILL be astounded by your accomplishment and then obviously at the end of week 9 you WILL think that you started by struggling through 8 1 minute runs.
I struggled through week 1, like everyone else, you can do this.
Welcome and well done.
If you don't complete a workout then repeat it until completion, then move on. That way you are ready for the next challenge. Moving to W2 if you haven't completed all of W1 may make life difficult. You are training your body, not ticking boxes.
Always take your rest days and go as slow as you need to. There is no rush.
Enjoy your journey.
Thank you. Im going to invest in new running shoes this week. That will help im sure
I did Week 1's runs about... 5 times?? or 6? I can't remember.. I had some crazy circumstances come up where I couldn't run so could only do like 1 per week. Once I actually "started" doing the 3 runs per week, it was totally different! You can do this!! New Shoes are a MUST HAVE! I thought my friend was crazy when she told me to go buy them, they can be pricey... but definitely get you some!!!
You got this! I'm on week 3 now and am starting to notice it getting much better! Definitely not nearly as winded as week 1!
