I am so grateful for the support that is offered on here, actually makes me quite emotional. I wish I had this kind of support in other areas of my life. I am running to loose weight but mainly to fight depression. The running and the support are really helping - thank you!

So pleased to hear that your running and this forum are helping.🙂 I started running to regain fitness, knowing that it might also help with the anxiety I struggle with from time to time. The difference it has made to my overall emotional wellbeing has been immense and when I had a long time on the injury couch this summer, it was my mental fitness that I was more worried about losing!! I know that I have found a new confidence through running that has also transferred to other areas of my life. I have actually (at the age of 52!) started to genuinely believe in ME!!!🙂🏃🏽‍♀️ I really hope you keep running and posting - we are a caring, sharing bunch on here!😀

Yup you're not the only one. I can't say the forums about mental health have been anywhere near as helpful as this! They serve a purpose for sure but this place is so uplifting :)

It was reading this forum, over four years ago, that convinced me that I could actually learn to run if I followed the C25k plan. I was very taken with the non judgemental, supportive positivity that flowed from here and to be honest, apart from about three or four posts over the intervening period, I can't remember any posters who didn't fit in with that ethos.

Whether we are a self selecting group, or in fact are representative of society at large I don't know, but it certainly makes me feel that the majority of people on this planet are decent caring individuals. I have confided in this community in a way that I have not done elsewhere, nor could have imagined that I would ever do years ago, simply because of the warmth and genuine empathy that is exhibited here on a daily basis.

There is nearly always someone here who has had similar experiences and as I always say, everything in your life can affect your running, so surely becomes legitimate subject matter for discussion here.

Long may we preserve that supportive ethos.

So well said.🙂

Well said. I've found support here, hope from time to time have supported others, and delight in the fact everyone here continues and extends the support. The most virtuous circle of friendship and help I've ever come across...

True dat... really is I was very wary about social media, people boasting about perfect lives etc, and then there is here, which is so unlike the internet's photoshopped, instagram perfect life. Just normal people trying to do a fantastic thing. Oh and they do...!!!

We've all drawn inspiration from fellow runners and maybe one of the reasons why this forum is so supportive is because we are all so amazed/convinced by the positivity that comes with this running lark and so want to share it with others? after all, we are starting to believe in ourselves and what we can achieve 😊

...everything everyone else said, plus I can honestly say that in just months this group has changed my outlook on myself, on what I believe I am capable of, the example I set and how I see the potential in the people around me - especially my kids. There is something special here, and so you have come to the right place for more reasons than simply health - which is no slouch of a reason in itself!

Love this thread. Sums up the very best of this running community. It is amazing how people you have never met can be supportive. You all carried me through my 28 minute run this morning ..I loved it. And absolutely agree about the positive effect it has on mental wellbeing. I can be feeling quite low but once I'm out running I concentrate on each step and by the end I feel great. Thank you to you all
