Running alone will not make you loose weight. You burn about 100kcal per mile - that's approximately a banana. Some will say you are putting on muscle which weighs more than fat, and while that is true, it will be some time before you put enough muscle on for that to alter your weight. However the muscles you develop even quite early on will alter your shap - in a good way. Also try not to (like me :( ) eat more after a run.

It may be also worth measuring yourself too (I have put on weight and "shrunk" in the past but that was hell of a lot of swimming!). Those Gladiator women, and I suspect Olympians, weighed quite a lot. I have always said I don't care what I weigh if I look and feel good. Running will certainly help you achieve that. You already have the feeling good bit :)

Well done - next run will be over half way!

Weight loss can be affected by many things, keep a diary of what you eat, have a look at MyFitnessPal, it's a website the allows you to track diet and exercise, etc, and you can set it for things like weight loss and it will tell you the amount of calories to aim for and as you enter what you eat or drink it shows you what's left. For this to be useful to you though you need to be honest with what you put in there.

Here's a good article on using running as part of a weight loss regime, runnersworld.com/weight-los...

While I mainly agree with nikkiwabit I'd point out that the amount of calories you burn on an average jog can vary greatly and depends on things like height, weight, sex.

Mixing running in with something low impact like Pilates or swimming will greatly increase your chances of weight loss.

Believe it or not, you can affect weight loss by eating too little, join MyFitnessPal, keep a track of what you eat, keep a track of what time you eat to, if you are eating a large meal in the evening that may not be helping you.

I agree there are many factors. Of course everything helps, it is just some people (like a friend of mine) thing exercise alone should make them shed a lot of weight - unfortunately not :( Interestingly I have researched the evening eating and it does not make much difference in itself but those that eat later tend also to be snackers.

Hi.. this is not specifically a weight loss programme.

Some on here lose weight, others not..It will however, linked with a healthy eating regime, tone and tighten and make you fitter...many folk on this forum are also on the Weight Loss forum.. they find it links together brilliantly!
