Week 2 Runs!

So.. I am on W2D2 of my couck to 5k plan... due to weather, unexpected traveling, etc... I have only been able to do 1.5 weeks in the span of a month. So it is a SLOW process. My knees and ankles and shins are hurting pretty badly, so trying not to push too hard. I am cross training and working on simple exercises to strengthen those muscles back up. In High School, I played basketball, but then once I started college and now post-college, I have not been very active at all, so trying to get back in the swing of things! Anyone else out there on Week 2? :) I'm excited to find this community that's actually up to date! Most of the communities out there are from 2014 and 2015!

Hey! Good to see the post.

I've restarted after getting to W4 earlier in the year, then a virus, holidays..... and I'm on Week 2 and building back up again. For some reason on the last 2 runs I've just felt a lot better about it than earlier in the year. More confident when I've seen other people - and when I've smiled they've smiled back and one cheered me on. It's hard to explain but it just feels better.

I'm travelling with work again this week but so pleased with myself for getting out before meetings for W2R2 in the local park.

In one section of the park on the path was the quote from Gandhi: "Be the change you want to see in the world". I don't see how to add the photo here.

Anyway - getting results isn't quick or easy but I'm trying to focus on routine and small changes to move forward. Sounds like you are taking the right approach to be careful.

Hey there, good for you for keeping going, as everyone on here will tell you, it's the goal that counts ... and you are on target ...

You have to go at your pace, there will be someone on here who is at the same stage as you, I found someone who is at the same stage as me, almost to the day ... keep going, keep going ...

Me!!! I just did W2D1 and found it ok... it wasn't easy but hey I never expected any of this to be easy.

I find making sure you have a good route planned first really helps! Tonight's run was laps around a park and I found it very Boring.

However Tuesday I had a great run and went further than normal as I got into a good rhythm!

I did C25k five years ago and loved it but never carried it on! This time I'm determined to become a proper runner!

Good luck and keep going!

Not on W2 but Month 2 of graduation. Just checking in to cheer you on. Take it slow, rest, stretch and ease in and you'll be fine.

Hiya. I too am on Week 2. Doing my week 2 run 2 today actually aswell. Since I started last week I've only had my usual 1 day off in between runs. It was hard at 1st but seems to be getting better. I brought a new pair of trainers aswell because I run on grass. (Better for your knees). I do alot of walking anyway and try to fit in long walks everyday. Haven't had any major pain but of course the usual stiffness like everyone else.

My advice would be to get a decent pair of trainers made for where you run. Good trainers doesn't always the mean expensive either. Paid £40 for mine. Makes alot of difference to some of the pains that some people experience. Also don't forget to stretch afterwards.

Alot of people suggest getting a gait analysis done. In time I will get that done aswell. But in the mean time I just quizzed the staff at the sport shop and did some research on shoes myself. Also used a machine they had which told me what type of arch I have.

I'm no expert but from what people say... it will become easier for you in time. You have to know how you're feeling though and if you are experiencing really bad pain, then the best thing to do would be to see your Doctor and maybe not run until you feel better.

Otherwise make afew changes. New trainers, jog very slowly, jog on grass instead of on concrete, make sure you're not dehydrated and I'm sure you will succeed.

Keep us posted with your progress. We all love reading updates from others.

Wish you well.x
