Is it ok to just go out and run 5K (or more) when you have new running shoes? Did anyone get blisters after a 5k in new shoes? They fit pretty good but I can't think of a way of breaking them in gradually as I only run 5K's at the moment. Just wondered if anyone had any horror stories of new shoes?

New Shoes

I have never had blisters from running shoes, but I do always wear running socks. Some people wear new shoes around the house. I don't and rarely ever run less than 5k.
One way of reducing the impact of the different support in new shoes is to alternate with your old ones for a while and then migrate to the new ones.
I have three pairs of shoes and never wear the same pair for consecutive runs. It makes tracking your shoe mileage a virtual impossibility, though.

I do pretty much the same as Iannoda above. I have only got blisters when ramping up longer distance, not from well fitted new shoes doing a regular distance.

I have done 5K in new running shoes. I must admit the idea of having 3 pairs and alternating them is intriguing - I could print IannodaTruffe's post and show it to OH.
I always wear running socks too.
Thanks all, I did have in mind to alternate them, but now the old ones look a bit stinky. Dunno if I can face going near them again actually. I will probably do that though in all seriousness. It sounds like a good idea long term (to alternate) in case your gait changes etc. I was just thinking it would be a good idea to run 2km in the new ones and leave it at that and then the next day run 3 kms, but I think I was being over cautious and I don't like the idea of running less than 5K at the moment. The new ones feel like they are giving me much more support and I am sure my joints are working less since I tried the new pair .

I'd try and plan a run with an escape route in case they start to rub. I doubt they will though, especially if you've got proper socks. XX
