Has anyone had a loose big toe nail ?I ended up with a loose nail after hike on Saturday + a couple of blisters around other nails . I'm putting this down to forgetting to trim my nails down beforehand. My question is ,I don't want to have this hinder my running so I've trimmed it down and have taped some cotton swab around it to protect it . As anyone had this on here ?and my question is will it cause me problems ,as at time being its painless .

Toe nail
I got a black toe nail earlier in the year, which then became loose and fell off, and it was down to running in shoes that weren't quite high enough. While they were my size and perfectly fine for gym work, my toe was too close to the end of the shoe, and by the time my foot moved in my shoe it was rammed against the end. I went to a running shop and got measured properly for shoes (and gait analysis while I was there). I now know I have to buy running shoes half a size bigger than my leisure trainers.
The guy in the shop also showed me how to lace my trainers to stop my foot moving about in my shoe without having them so tight that the circulation to my toes is cut off.
Hope this doesn't stop you running.
Thanks for your reply,I had gait analyst done my runners are fine it's the hiking shoes what caused the problem on a 27 mile hike I thought I'd bedded them in but this happened
Chances are the nail will come off and if you've trimmed it back as far as you can and as you've not previously had problems created by your running shoes you should be ok
I've lost two big toenails, the same nail twice! I just taped it up before running and let the tape soak off in the bath. The second time I lost the nail it didn't come off neatly but it was OK - you just have to avoid snagging it. the nail will grow back but it's a bit slow
Only when you need to walk or run. Keep it open most of the time to get the air to it to aid healing
I bathed in Epsom salts post run
