Hi Everyone. I've never run before. I'm a lot over weight. I have an under active thyroid and fibromyalgia. I need to do something to get this weight off and be healthier. I struggle walking never mind running. Any helpful tips and advice would be great. Thank you

Hello and well done for taking the plunge... I'm a bit over what the scales suggest I should be and like you I have hypothyroidism which is a pain itself... best advice on here is start slow... continue slow and after a while you can build up to slow and steady... listen to your body and enjoy 😀
Ok, well this programme is not specifically designed for weight loss however you will by following the programme burn off fat, increase muscle/tone and generally improve your well being
It might not be easy with the fibromyalgia but just attempt to follow the programme and you can repeat weeks if it helps

Just take it steady really. I was a total beginner and got tired out going up stairs but i managed it and you can too. 60 seconds is how it starts and that is all. Concentrate on the short jog you are doing at the time and that is all. Nothing else matters in that moment. You CAN do it! Good Luck, let us know how it goes x
oh and I'm a very nearly 60 ex 20 a day man who's been carrying more weight than he should who started out just where you are only 10 weeks ago and now running 5k 3 times a week

There are quite a few people here with fibromyalgia at the moment and they seem to find it helps to run.
Most new runners are not aware of the incredible psychological benefits of running, finding themselves strangely hooked to this sometimes painful but ultimately exhilarating pastime.
As others have said, go slow, the plan is about duration not speed. Repeat any run you can't complete. Always have at least one rest day between runs and remember you can only fail if you stay on, or return to the couch.
This plan has transformed countless thousands of lives, so be prepared to be surprised at your own ability.

Well done for deciding to join - no one said it's easy but wow it's rewarding most of the time -- even with early aches and pains ( which do settle down as the weeks pass)
In my job role I see fibro patients quite a lot and the ones who do the best are the ones who exercise ( within their own limits ) exercise is s recommendation by consultants /GPs alike . Listen to your body and take it very steadily . I hope you enjoy the forum - it is awesome and quickly follow and read posts from familiar names

Im in exactly the same boat , never thought this was possible but im doing my last run of the program tomorrow. Best decision ive made in a long time! Its been hard but soooo worth it , feel like a different person. Good luck with it and keep us upto date with how your getting on 😊
Take it slowly and follow the app - if one day it's not successful repeat - you can do this I am overweight too don't be obsessed by scale measurement (like me) as I have noticed they don't move much but the inches do - use a tape measure😃. You will feel so much better health wise and have a C25K glow 😀😀😀
Well done and good luck. My advice to you is to take it steady...aim to complete the workouts, regardless how slowly. Perhaps also give yourself a couple of days between runs if you're feeling it. I've taken it more slowly and suffered less injury as a result. Good luck

You know already that listening to your body is the thing. Follow the programme and take the rest days... more than one if need be...If it feels too much of a struggle, then pull back and incorporate some walking exercise first maybe?

I have an underactive thyroid too, as long as you are taking your medication it shouldn't be a problem. I completed this programme 3 years ago and still run 5 or 6 k usually 3 X a week. I'm in my mid 50s. I found it gave me much more energy and stamina. Just jig really slowly. As long as you are moving, that's fast enough Good luck with it.
Welcome to the club and well done for making the decision to do Couch to 5K. I hope you start to enjoy your runs and keep us up to date with how it's going. You will get encouragement and advice by the bucket load in here, and it's definitely what has kept me going when the going gets tough.
I have an under active thyroid problem too, am a few stone overweight and in my 50s. I have recently graduated and feel fitter than I ever have. As everyone is saying, take it slow and steady and listen to your body. You can do it - good luck!
Tomorrow's D day. I'm going to trying jogging if it's too painful I'll probably stick to walking 4 now till I loose some more weight. As i have arthritis too. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement xx
