Visited podiatrist today as suffered leg pain for years and been told I'm very flat footed (which I knew) and as a result my ligaments are working overtime and causing me shin splints. Being referred to get insoles made. Anyone else suffer this? Any advise on what I could do until I get my insoles?

Regardless of whether flat footedness has developed over time or whether it's something you've suffered from since childhood, I'd still perform foot exercises to strengthen your plantar fascia.
If the natural curve of the arch has been lost over time (resulting in pronation), all might not be lost, since regular foot exercises and going bare foot as often as possible may help to re-develop shape your feet once possessed.
Even if they don't work (to re-develop shape), a stronger plantar fascia will mean that it's less susceptible to injury. A foot massage roller is also worth consideration, to help relieve tension and discomfort, particularly if your feet feel painful.
