So was due to do W6/R2 today but I didn't get out either A.) because I've been for some retail therapy all day with MrM and walked my legs off 13,000 steps worth today and B.) because it's got so dark so early and I dislike being on the streets alone in the dark! This has got me pondering.... I usually Run in the evening after 8.30 ish but it seems to be getting darker earlier so guess morning runs seem like the best option now? What's your preference on Run times?

Hey I'm the same I always run at 8:30 in the evening but I've noticed the dark gaining on me ! Might have to buy some reflective gear 🌛

in reply to fivekstarter

I would say I could try to run faster to get back before dark but slow n steady is still my pace lol good idea about the reflective gear though !

I run around my work schedule so mainly evenings and run on a trail (no lights) so think I'm going to have to start and hit the streets and get some reflective/high vis gear

in reply to rolysmate

Yep definitely sounds like we need to invest xx

You will be surprised on the amount of light, even with no lights:) I had a high viz sash and a flashing belt!!! Scared many a rabbit!

have thought about getting a head lamp

in reply to rolysmate

Yes I am sorely tempted by the head torch idea. Wondering if it's possible to sneak out of the house without partner realising I have it as she would freak at the idea I would run in the woods in the dark. But I can't bear the idea of running on roads in the dark and morning runs on work days not really an option.

in reply to rolysmate

It's not the dark I'm afraid off it's who or what is lurking about 😬 even a rabbit would scare me If it hopped out in front of me😱

rolysmate profile image
rolysmateGraduate in reply to

But can you imagine how scarey it could be for others seeing this floating light coming towards them lol

in reply to rolysmate

😂 very true..... maybe when the darker evenings draw in earlier we'll see lots of floating lights !

well if you do remember it could be me

in reply to rolysmate

😂😂 will keep my eyes 👀 peeled👀 if I brave going out in the dark😬

That's what I would be hoping for. I have once seen a deer but I bet there's more wildlife at dawn and dusk when there's less people disturbing them.

in reply to Wannabefit19

A few of us appear to have missed a run today 😬 never mind as long as we keep at it x I do feel a tad guilty but I've told MrM to kick me out of bed in the morning 😬 Shopping was fab... I've got a wedding to attend next weekend so it was nice to find dressy dresses shoes clutch bags girly stuff makes a change from casual or running atire 😊

Mornings! I started C25K in the winter of 2025..it was brilliant! :)

in reply to Oldfloss

Ooooooo Oldfloss i hate the cold I'm just praying I can handle winter runs WHEN I finish the program !

You will..if you ever read any of my early posts it will just make you want to get out there :)

in reply to Oldfloss

I'll make sure I scroll back and check them out... it's chilly n wet here at moment and I know my route takes me head on up a windy road I always find the wind difficult but just slow down n keep plugging away till I can turn off! No option to change route as other way takes me uphill and I haven't had to tackle those YET! X

100% NOT mornings and my runs lately have been later - evenings dark or not.

in reply to nikkiwabit

I like to go first thing before I give myself too much time to change my mind. I'm all done and dusted by 9-9.30 am.. otherwise as the day goes on it's on my mind. I did my week 6 run 2 yesterday and I'm up and out early tomorrow for my 25 minute run! Gulp x

Morning girl, sorry for bucking the trend... if I leave it til the evening I find 1001 unnecessary things to do, like cleaning the oven with a toothpick that kind of a thing...

in reply to

😂toothpick u nutter 😂 thing is I'm pretty sure I keep on running to validate my well deserved glass of wine when I get in in the evening.... coffee just dosnt have the same appeal 😬

Never thought of that mmmmm

Let's put it this way. My previous life habits meant that l could get up at a very late hour and enjoy laidback style. Not once did l think that in the winter I'd get up and run before dawn. Funnily enough, that's exactly how l ended up doing my Monday run at times :) The point is, run when you have time, and given that time is irrelevant you can run literary at any time and it won't spoil any fun ;)

in reply to mrrun

Hmmmm I'm not really a morning person .... takes at least two cups of tea before I can even think of getting moving so god knows how I'd fit a run in before work (I'm on holiday this week) but I'll give it a go tomorrow (If MrM manages to kick me out of bed) and see how I feel !

mrrun profile image
mrrunGraduate

Hey, I used to be anything but morning person and this is how l simply found the easiest way out of my 'stay in bed problem'. Alarm clock, straight out of bed, no thinking, into running gear, one banana or hard boiled egg, some water, and before you know it you're into your first kilometre. Later at home you appreciate the process ;)

in reply to mrrun

Well MrRun I'll give it a go.... and keep you posted! X

Lol...you n me both...I'll be out about 7:15 and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

in reply to Mummycav

I've turned my alarm off I'm shattered after all that shopping today 😬 I'm going when my body wakes naturally and not a second before 😂(I am on holiday from work) so no alarms aloud on this week!

in reply to Mummycav

Ahhh I've had my years of stay at home mum they have almost all flown the nest still have my baby (who's 21) at home but I've returned to work part time .., then the grandchildren came along and I often find myself doing the schoolRun on my days off 😬 (So my eldest daughter can get some extra shifts in) I'm enjoying my lay in's while it's school holidays! Mornings for me 😊 School drop off at 8.35 and then I head straight out. Summer hols have really thrown me as I had to change my routine to evenings...... one week into the 6 weeks and my calf muscle went pop 🙁 One week and counting until I'm hopefully back on my running feet 😁

I am chief dog walker in the mornings. He is an old dog so he just does his own thing re: barking at squirrels, smelling important trees and now on 3 mornings a week, losing and finding me running. I think he is a bit confused :-P

I've just got back from W6R1 - and it was my first evening run. I thought I should try out the 6.30pm slot rather than the 6.30am one as I'll be back at work next week (teacher) and routines are about to shift up a gear. Both run and time of day were ok but it was raining - also a first. I need some hi vis and a running jacket. Any recommendations? (cheap and cheerful is fine).
