Just started week 2 and have a big, painful problem.

Hi, I'm pretty desperate for advice, I'll try to keep this as brief as I can.

Been out of any kind of workout scheme for well over three years now, I had a difficult pregnancy, subsequent birth, and fairly bumpy first year as a mum, only this year have things been going much better.

I had some trainers fitted at a specialist store some years ago, and first I checked they were still suitable - yep. Also still a forefoot runner. Good to go!

All was going ok until the first day of week 2, one week ago today. My ankles felt sharp pain, just under the ankle bone on both feet. It got worse so I went home, did some stretches and rested.

Well, I've been back to the running shop, and the docs. I've tried stretches, massage, and trigger point therapy with a roller. Both ankles are still so sore to even walk in and my knees are starting to hurt too and I'm not doing anything.

Luckily I'm off work this week with my husband and son, but I'm really upset that in one week I've made no move towards lessening the pain, no amount of ice or rest is helping.

Dr is stumped. Specialty running retailer is stumped. My marathon runner friend is stumped.

Please help.

Oh dear... either head back to the GP and ask for a referral to a specialist. or get yourself to an accredited Sports Physiotherapist.

We are not medical experts and we would not be able to give anything more than advice.. someone may have experienced similar issues to you and be helpful though.

Bad enough to miss runs, but more importantly, you need to feel fit and strong for your family :)

I would advice seeking further medical help :)

I agree with Oldfloss. Just wanted to offer some sympathy- really feeling for you and hope you get sorted out soon.

I would also agree with oldfloss as well as adding my sympathy. Try a physio. I have had a couple of occasions when doctors were stumped or wrong that physios diagnosed and sorted so I am a big fan. Never needed more than a couple of appointments so if you're paying for yourself not necessarily as expensive as you might think.

Have you had X rays yet? (Seem to happen less often than they used to)

Tincture of Time is often successful with these mysterious things but does need a large dose of Patience to cope with the side-effects. (Not saying you shouldn't try for other diagnosis and treatment!)

If you can still cuddle and smile at your little one, you've got the most important things covered.

Not what you're looking for?
