Well, that was a surprise...
I woke this morning feeling rough with a stonking headache and stiff all over. However knowing that tomorrow we are busy all day and Monday is an archery shoot all day I decided to give it a go. My running partner groaned when I tried to get him up so I abandoned him.
I drank a cup of tea and a glass of water and loaded up Laura and was out of the door.
Normally, the place we run is the local cricket pitch as it's flat and well maintained. Due to a damaged knee ligament which was still recovering when we started the process of couch to 5k, I was wary of hills and uneven ground as I didn't want to damage the knee again.
Today, not fancying the drive I used the warm up walk to get to a local recreation area which has tarmac paths but some grassy bits and small slopes.
The first run took me to the slope, and some how, a gentle incline when walking turned into a steeper hill, a mini mountain according to my legs. But up I went small steps but got to the top... Then along the flat when Laura told me that I was half way and had ran for 5 minutes. Tired, hot, I stopped my water, head up and thought sod it, I am not being beaten. I don't understand how but the next 5 minutes was easier and somehow I seemed to increase my pace.
This was the first time that I have drank water during the runs, we oftwn have sold during the rest bits but it was mid 20s this morning. However, a run which I fully anticipated being a practice run turned into a successful run and my gremlin seemed to be defeated today. I walked home a smiling tomato.
It just shows that sometimes you just need to get your head up and give it a go... And you can do it
