1st 5km event of the year.

The last Event I did last year was the event I ran in today. For those who are new. I have beeen out of action for a little while while my body was healing from donating a kidney to MrRfc.

I have been very excited about getting back to my events and this morning I got up after not too much sleep, as the night before events are a bit like Christmas for me. I'm too excited to sleep. So up I got and had my breakfast and set off. I live in London and it can be difficult getting bus and train connections to fit in nicely together on a Sunday and as most events are on a Sunday, I left with enough time to compensate for missing a connection, hehe, the upshot was I arrived at the venue before even the toilets had arrived a full 1.5hour early. You can see how empty it was on the first picture. So then I started my wait for the start, listening to some great 80's tunes, cheesy i know but it is my era.

This event was organised by Decathlon and it is called their Run series. It is a free event with a tshirt, medal and goody bag, it is very well run and it it is a family event. There were some little toddlers there doing a full 5km, and yes I did get overtaken by one of them but in good sportsmanship I smiled and gave them a massive thumbs up as they ran past me πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ».

My event went well in all fairness, I was a little disappointed as at about 3.5-4km I had to slow down (not that I am fast in any sense of the word) because my heart rate had raised a little too much and as I'm still in recovery a bit from March so didn't want to push it too much. My time was adequate for me. MrRfc has spent a couple of hours persuading me that 1.35 min off my PB for a 5km is pretty good considering.πŸ˜€.

I think I need to get in a couple of parkruns to get used to the faster paces again, but all in all a great day and a lovely event.

Wishing you all a happy healthy weekend.

Thank you, Hehe the sunshine gives a good filter πŸ˜€. I smile like a Cheshire Cat at events. I saw a little girl today with Cheshire Cat running bottoms, gave her a massive thumbs up and said love your runners. πŸ˜€

Fantastic to read this post RFC! πŸ˜€πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈSo, so pleased for you - that you are getting back to things so well after all that you (and Mr RFC) have been through. You have as, Oldfloss says, been a huge inspiration to so many of us on here - and have shown such a positive, determined (and patient!) spirit. Thank you for all your hard work as Administrator too, and the support you always give us as we all tackle the inevitable ups and downs of our running journeys! Here's to many more races and fantastic runs ahead for all of us! Oh, and great photos too - bet it was great to get that bling!!πŸ™‚x

Thank you. I think I have quietly being having little impatient tantrums πŸ˜€, but it was so good to get back out there. HM feels a long way off but I'm sure I'll be ready by March. It was heavy bling as well, you know how some girls like big diamonds, I like heavy blingπŸ˜€.

Oh, I am struggling to get back to fitness too RFC, and my dream of a second HM in the spring also feels a long way off... but you know what? Maybe we will both be ready?! And, there's nothing wrong with big bling!!!πŸ₯‡πŸ˜€

Thank you. Speed, I can always work at can't I?, even if I never get as fast it is all still so worth it. It felt amazing, I still say it is the best feeling you can have at a social event while completely sober. πŸ˜€.

Do you remember RFC when I posted about my daughter doing her first full 5k in Feb? Her transplant op was the previous October. You were really hoping to have a similar recovery but, I think, a little doubtful you would do it (that was pre your op!)

Now here we are and you have absolutely achieved it! You are awesome my friend xxxx

I know time has been a bit all over but all in all it has not been as bad as I was expecting. I have my 6 month check up in three weeks, I'm hoping they will be happy with me. Everyone says I look so well, better than before but as I keep telling everyone living without that sort of stress takes years off you. πŸ˜€ Love and hugs to you and yours ❀️❀️❀️.

Proof positive of what an amazing person can do. Well done you what a fantastic effort and 80s music, perfect accompaniment to what looked to be a perfect return to running. Brilliant
