Some little while after my Dad passed away Mum decided she wanted to down size and move into a bungalow (no stairs) and a small manageable garden.
January 6th this year Mum moved into her new home, with a mixture of joy and sadness at leaving the home she'd shared with Dad.
I called in one morning for a quick cuppa with her and she said "look what I've found" and proceeded to show me a newspaper cutting, there was a picture of myself and three other guys who made up the school cross country team and guessing I'd be about 14.
We were stood proudly holding a large trophy we'd just won, we were the district champions.
Mum bless her had kept this newspaper cutting all these years, we both had a little cry.
Sadly just a few days later 21/2/17 Mum passed away unexpectedly, peacefully and with her children holding her hands.
So Sunday is the start of week 9 when I WILL become a graduate runner and mum would be so chuffed, so week 9 I'm running for Mum
Love you Mum xx

Oh how absolutely lovely, what a touching story and how wonderful that you shared that moment with her. I am sure that your meemum is looking down and thinking cross country champion at 14 and now a soon to be confirmed graduate runner.
Chuffed to buckets, she will be and so will you. Knock W9 out, because you can and you want to and it's for the best meemum ever.
Yup, I never did smoke, mainly because I think as a kid when I used to have to buy my dad's John Players from the corner shop, it used to bug me. I know my mum was really happy when my brother and little sister stopped. Just two out of the 6 sibs still smoke and she'd be delighted if they stopped too. So well done you stopping smoking and taking on the running again, what a change. Meemum will be really happy that's for sure.
What a beautiful moving post, your mum must have been so proud of you, you obviously had a wonderful relationship with your mum. Good luck with week 9, although I think you will be looked after.
What a moving post. Everyone is doing C25K for some reason but yours has real meaning. Thank you for sharing the story. You've brought tears to my eyes. Go smash it & make your man proud 🐒
As something of a follow up to this post I just thought I'd let you all know that last Sunday the 27th august would have been mum and dads 63rd wedding anniversary
So on Sunday we scattered Mum and Dads ashes in the churchyard where they were married
Monday the 28th was the 3rd anniversary of dads death
