I completed my first 30 minute run this morning. I considered postponing for a day as I did a hike yesterday that left my quads quivering and shin splints shrieking and I know how important it is to rest between workouts but....this was our last day in Lake Louise and I thought if I'm going to run anywhere, it had to be here. So at 6am this morning it was just me, a couple of canoeists on the lake and a small army of chipmunks (and my private paparazzi in a bush). Oh there were 4 other runners as well, we've started an international 'nod good morning' club π Don't think I'm going to top this.
Just a note to those just starting this program and are wondering what all the fuss is about, my hike yesterday proved why this is so good for you. I seriously cannot believe the difference in my stamina and general fitness and I wouldn't say I managed the hike with ease but I managed it so much better than I would have 6 months ago ππ»

Fabulous photo -- must have been a fabulous run! Good for you for getting out there. On a recent hike with a couple of experienced hikers, I noticed how I was still breathing comfortably when they were panting. I agree with you, it must be the additional fitness that running brings. Best of luck with the rest of your final week!
What a running location...it is stunning... and well done you!!!
A great motivational post too... we do extol the benefits of the programme, mental and physical but to see and hear about it is so motivational for our Newbies..
I know the increased stamina and strength, (both mental and physical) , that comes from this, made a massive difference to me after our granddaughter was born...walking with her for about nine miles a day for weeks and weeks and supporting Little Mum...!
Thank you very, very much for posting...
Lucky you Enjoy the rest of your holiday!
PS
This is going to make my run across my fields, in a moment, look a little tame!
Beautiful views Paula no wonder you wanted to run there, I'm about to do run 2 of week 9 and nearly gave up around week 5 but the forum gave me the support I needed and I feel so much better for it...only two runs to graduation see you on the podium
Wow - what a beautiful location. I'm green with envy. And so impressed that you got up at 6 to run!
I totally agree with you about the increased stamina. My husband used to have to stop and wait for me to catch my breath when climbing steep hills but now it's the other way round.
Been to Lake Louise a few times in the late 1990s. It is absolutely beautiful!! You wouldn't believe the stunning blue colour of the water unless you'd been there. Also went there in the winter when it was frozen over and covered in amazing ice sculptures.
It must have been a truly inspirational place to go for a run.
