So I'm over 50 overweight and often over excited π.... I read in total awe the people that run 5k in 30 mins and under but ... it's takes time I've read this over and over again .. so this morning with the sun in the sky scruffy dog and myself plodding along the paths of the local park run ... awesome I knocked over a whopping 4 mins from my previous 5k tracked run two weeks ago ... so gentle does it but improvement can happen ... I'm determined to get there ππΌββοΈ
Never worry ππΌββοΈ: So I'm over 50 overweight... - Couch to 5K
Never worry ππΌββοΈ
4 Minutes off your previous PB. That is amazing! I was pleased with 1 minute off so am totally in awe of you.
30 minutes - nah... that's for young fit people - not me.
Yeay... enjoying the journey is what it is all about
Just remember some of us are build for comfort not for speed, there more of us to cuddle and we don't want to loose that. You'll never see a Labrador at the greyhound track. Slow and steady is just fine. π
lol I'm trying to loose some of that extra poundage makes it easier to plod on !! In my head I'm the gazelle with wee scruffy as my greyhound whereas we are more like the carthorse and the scruff lol ππΌββοΈππΌββοΈ
Some of us were just never meant to be skinny, there are some very fit big people, look at those rugby lads for instance.
Hi π Eric lad cam a new member & hello . I came across your post & I wanted to let you I wish you well running & that I liked your saying made me laugh π The greyhound verse the Labrador x funny thanks for making me smile ha . I will be a snail x πππ» Bernadette
Hi Bernadette, Welcome, I'm also quite new to the site and to running, just started on the C25K program and finished week 4, I'm 64 overweight and never run before but giving it a go, only a geriatric shuffle. I've been a bit of a fat chap for years so have lots of jokes for laughing it off although this is probably not the place to make light of it. They are great bunch and are really supportive so you're in good company. I hope we catch up again and that you enjoy the site. x
Hi πEric lad . Thankyou & yes I already feel spured on just reading through members posts & I found tag very comforting & love the support that you all give out to each other bounce off each other in humour & encotagment in a positive mind set . I believe in being positive mind set physical mental & in good spirit keeps you active . Anyway Eric am at rehab aim walking my main goal is to run shufflel I don't care to i rich the air we breath . So you keep going & I am glad I joined it does spure me on, also I hope I be right behind you or who knows I my speed up be by your side in mind hopefully . Well done to you ππ» Keep my eye on you for your commentaries off your running & I will Pat you on the back applause you well done keep it up Eric ππ»ππ»π Bernadette xx
Targets are great for motivation, but they do need to be realistic if you are not to get disillusioned. Why not set some intermediate targets just to keep up the buzz of achievement, and work your way slowly to that sub 30 5k.
You probably won't knock four minutes off every week. Quite naturally, the more you run the less frequently the PBs arrive, as you get nearer to your peak performance.
Totally agree and that was using the Fitbit tracker rather than just the distance log ... was over two weeks and two different locations ... I'm far from cracking that kind of time off lol I'm just happy being out there !!! ππΌββοΈππΌββοΈ
Hi Mentor hi am a new member testing the waters & feel inspired reading the posts . But not ready as yet to run but at present my aim has been walking pre hab & bloody lungs hold me back breathing pursed lips . I didn't think that there was lung condition runner so that alone has opened my eyes & I have injoyed the responses I recorded & intend to found out how to get to starter beginners level & gain knowledge off to start my stepping stones etc . Anyway mentor hope life is & has been treating you & all members kind x Bernadette x
Welcome, Bernadette. I am glad you find this an inspirational site.......that is our aim. The C25K plan is brilliant but it is the support of this forum that makes all the difference.
There is a walking for health website walkingforhealth.org.uk which may be helpful for you at the moment. The C25K plan teaches people that although we are all limited by our own physicality, we are often held back by our brains.
Belief is the key.
What an achievement well done.... first thing to do is cover the distance time will
Improve as you have shown over time (cheesy I know but true!) .... good luck with your onward running journey!
It's great that you're so determined, but don't get put off if you don't always knock time of your PB. Sometimes it's just good to run and enjoy the great outdoors. π
Well done. That's a great personal best. Some feeling when you achieve it isn't it?
