Well helllooooooooo!!!

It's been flippin ages since I wrote anything on here and there's a very valid reason for this. I'm crap! There you go. Got it in one. However, there's no time like the present to right my wrong and say hello once again.

I am still running three times per week sometimes 4 times....ooh get me!) and today I managed my longest run of the year. A full 13K in 1hr and 16 mins. It was gorgeous out there today and I loved every minute of it. My arse muscles are complaining a bit now though to be honest, as they are not used to such distances. I realised a long time ago that 10K was my limit in terms of a) a good challenge b) don't get too knackered and c) don't get bored. But today I fancied a slightly longer tonk along the River Thames, through Twickenham to Teddington Lock, then over the river to the other side before passing Ham then into Richmond and home.

I'd been working pretty hard since October on this job and ended up putting on a few extra pounds. I still was running (out at 6am!!) but I need a lot of grub shoved down my gizzard when I'm working and it always ends up around my middle. Then Mrs Dan and I went to Cyprus for our summer hols and I ate two entire cows every day with chips, beer, puddings, then a cocktail or six. This resulted in me ballooning to unsightly proportions so a radical diet / exercise regime was put in place on my return. My Fitness Pal along with longer running and giving up the booze for July meant that I am now 12lbs lighter and back to my happy weight of 12 1/2 stone. Mrs Dan is annoyed because she says boys just lose weight so easily whilst she struggles. She does FAR more exercise than me (aerobics in front of the telly) yet still finds it hard to shift poundage. I of course swagger about the place, revelling in my weight loss and shouting it from the rooftops! Hahahaha!!

I do so hope those old pals that remember me are doing well. I spend most of my time on the rather empty and vacuous Facebook these days, reporting on my runs etc. I started a weight loss running group on there with JuicyJu in July/August this year which has proved to be a lot of fun - and the folk who joined are keeping an eye on their intake of calories a lot more than if the group never existed!! So we've tried to help folks that way.

Run well all - and don't forget when you feel like giving up......go to the pub! Hahaha!!

Yer pal

Dan.

Well helloooo Mr Dan, this is rather spooky, I used the term 'tonking' (in relation to zipping round the old Olympic park, not me, but in my head - so it must be real.......😉) in a post the other day and thought of you, and here you are!.......

Good to hear from you.

Well hello there stranger. Good to hear from you. Sounds like a great run today. There are still some of the old names around here. Sounds like a good incentive for watching what your eating with t the Facebook page. I might need that once I've finished healing. Glad your still out there running. Take care Rfc x.

Dan!! It's so great to see you back here again.and you're still running! I've missed your posts ☹️ There's still a few of us here from way back stalking.....no ..... I mean ..... trying to be helpful to lovely newbies 🙂

I'm too nosey to go away as I love to see how people are getting on and if you wait long enough then blasts from the past (like you) pop in again. I love it!

Hopefully we'll get more of your fab posts again to entertain us 🤗

Still running and still loving it. Have had a few stints on the old IC which hampered my first HM race but I'm just about back up to speed and ready to try again. I'm fully addicted now 🙂

Well howdy doody Danboy. Great to hear you are still tonking along the tow paths.

Two cows a day is excessive......even for you.

I was asking Turbo Tortoise just recently if she had any news of you and she said you were still about. We could do with some of your lycra clad run reports on here, Dan. The forum is much busier than years ago and your reports would vie with Irish John and Jancanrun in brightening up our busy lives.

Moi, je suis on the staff now....so have to be deadly serious, so we could do with another court jester.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Hello Dan, I know how you feel. I have been very slack for a while and I can feel the difference. Remember one of the girl's name on this forum was "use it or lose it" ? This is now my Mantra. 😃

Ha ha that's me! I was just about to post and there you were mentioning me! I have also just got back from a long stint without much exercise - two and a half weeks in the USA then a camping trip to Scotland. Virtually no running at all for a month, and quite a few pounds have been put on. I can REALLY feel them when I run now, so I too have just reignited MyFitnessPal and am going to try and be good for a few weeks. I need to lose about half a stone to get back to my comfortable weight (though I won't be modelling in Vogue any time soon after that). My wobbly bits are well wobbly and it kind of puts the running rhythm out of whack.

Nice to hear from old friends again, as I don't come on here so much these days as I feel a bit guilty just plodding along two or three times a week and not training for marathons or anything. It works for me, but I always feel a bit inadequate when I read about others' amazing achievements!
