Does anyone else have ambitions to take their running somewhat further?

After I had been running for a couple of years, I tried progressing to flight but success in this discipline has been limited thus far.

Funny enough I started with flight. Running was a dream.

I started to run because I wanted to do a triathlon. I did this in 2014 but stayed more with the running and swimming as I really didn't feel the love for cycling, I keep trying to pick it up again. I like to do the swimathon in March/April. My ultimate aim would be to train to do a RatRace, I am hoping to go and watch the London one this weekend to see what I could be letting myself in for. 😀.

Define further.

Do you mean run further in a 30 minute run, run longer than a 30 minute run, run with people rather than alone, run trails, run roads, run woods, run sand, fell running, event running etc. There are a whole gambit of options.

Ps, ive done a bit of all of the above except fell running. But I know a girl that does so I may give it a go shortly🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️💪🏻👍🏼

whatever peoples ambitions are, so any of the above

Like Olympian? Nah I think I'm way better than that! Sorry sarky cow is back again - I was thinking going up to 10k because I think I'm probably not really a sprinter.

This year my aim is to run a sub 30 min 5k. Once I achieve this I want to run 3 Parkruns in a row at a sub 30 min/5k pace. Then I will start training for 10k. That would be my max distance. My long term goal would be to run a sub 60 min 10k.

I achieved my ambition, that was to be able to do a 5k with the other half and her girls, running together was a big push for me but now I've got the bug my ambitions have grown...

Very much like Damien my ambition is to do a regular sub 30 5km which is within my grasp. I've done 10k so would like to start consolidating that and the next step is regular sub 1hr 10k runs... something clicked when I did my non stop 10km where I got into a zone where I felt like I could just keep on running, that's definitely where I want to be and by consequence build a better 5k pace over time... I've only been doing this since April though so ambitions may change as I get experience.

I want to get down to 15min (or sub 16 min at least) 5k.... Ive got a long way to go lol :p , that's one of my "possibly impossible for me" dream. Still getting faster and close to a big 5k time target of mine to drop this year. Have short term goals for 10k and half marathon. A more "accessible but still possibly I just cant do it but not as crazy as 15min 5k" is a sub 3 hour marathon. I know a lot of people aim for that.

I also am in the waiting list for a running club, and looking at athletics clubs. And would like to get into fell running. Signed up for a half marathon yesterday, that will be my furthest run. I was clinically obese at the start of the year, so feel like anything is possible.

Running is one of the only things I enjoy, it gets me out of my head, the amount of targets and goals and reasons to like doing it and celebrate doing it are endless.

Yep, gotta have a goal! Started off with 3 x 5k a week and this kept changing and increasing until March this year when I completed my first Half Marathon!🙂. Had an autumn goal to run a second in November but currently recovering from nasty attack of sciatica so at the moment my goal is just to get back to my 5K's! Such is the runners journey 😮 but it's all good and I am slowly building up again. Am also tempted to join a running club but being a bit of a scaredy cat have not achieved this one yet. Good luck with your own goals!🙂

Yes... just to keep running for as long as I am able...building up, yep you have guessed it, slowly and steadily....and to just see where I end up :)

PS

I would quite like to start a running group called Galloping Grammies!!!!

I'm doing a sponsored 5k September 9th but would like initially to consolidate my ability at 5k but long term am thinking 2018 great north run.

Don't know if I'm being over ambitious but time will tell!!!

Not too ambitious at all! Get the training in, build the miles, job done 👍🏼

JuicyJu our resident panther is currently seeking ultra I believe

I am training for a marathon, as are probably quite a few other C25kers here

I have done one short fell run. I would love to do more

I'd love to complete a half marathon. As soon as the youngest starts nursery school (3 years time!!) I'm going to start training for it. I've got 3 years to get miles under my belt tho. C

I am thinking of park runs, improving my time on a 5K run, and then training for a 10 K......that's the plan anyway!

My goals are short term. This is my first year as a runner so I want to improve on my 5k running over the next couple of months by just running 3X per week. I have struggled with injury since graduating in June and have only ran 10 times since. But I am getting consistent runs in again and seeing my times drop. Current PB is 27:13 so I want to push for 25mins, by the end of the year - and then who knows, I will be turning 40 next year so I am thinking that maybe I want to do something big, or a few goals over the course of the year.

will be 60 sept 11th and doing a sponsored 5k sept 9th, like you want to consolidate my ability at 5k but definitely want to go for something bigger

Short and long term goals

Learn to pace myself for negative splits (ie stop charging out like a maniac and then running out of steam halfways through the run!)

Get a sub 35 parkrun then 34, 33, 32, 31, 30!

Concurrently work up to 10k

Do a parkrun in the city where I was born

Run the New York Marathon at 70 (2028)

I'm currently doing three 5km runs each week. I'm going to gradually increase one run to 10km, but it will be slow and steady! After that, who knows?
