I was feeling all pleased with myself for getting to the end of week 2 so I decided to measure out the distance my route actually covers. Oh dear! It's only 3.7k and that includes the 5 minute warm up walk and 5 minute walk at the end. How does anyone ever manage to get to 5k of running in 9 weeks? I think 30 mins of running will be possible in the "slow and steady" mantra but no way do I think I'll get to 5k in 30 mins now I've seen how far that actually is, and how much more distance I'd need to add to to my route. I'm still enjoying the runs though, and keen to keep going, so perhaps I just need to rename my programme couch to 3.7K! I guess I can always work on speed and covering more distance once I've graduated.
Still some distance to cover - end of week 2. - Couch to 5K
Still some distance to cover - end of week 2.
Have a little read of the forum. You will find the answers you seek.
Oh dear! Oh dear! Whaaaat!

Distance, speed, time blah blah is immaterial. Run slow, run even slower, walk if needs be but don't hurry, push or worry about anything except that finish line
Finishing is all. Nowt else matters
Couch to 5k, or 3.5k,or 4 and a bit. It doesn't really matter. You are running and enjoying it 😃🏃♀️✔️👍
Jo Whiley assures me that as each week passes I will be able to run farther and for longer and easier(well I think that's what she's saying). So I guess it's just a natural progression. But not 100% on that as I'm a newbie too and think my run/walk is about the same distance as yourself. 👟
I'm on week 5 (think I'll be on it a while), but have noticed over the past week or two that I go quite a bit further now more running involved. Still nowhere near 5k though, but I think the running for 30 mins, however fast or slow is the main thing to aim for. As someone just told me - you can do it!
The majority finish running for less than 5k. That can come later. I graduated about 2 months ago and last week ran 7k (really slowly!)
You will be suprised how much further distance you cover when you are doing 5/8/10 minute runs... i was doing 3.1km at week 2, now at Week 4, i did 3.9km last night in a similar timeframe.
So in theory, by the time your doing 20/25/30 min runs, you will be up around the high 4k's, maybe 5km.
Either way, dont stress over it.
Most folk don't manage 5K... they don't have to.. the idea is to run for 30 minutes...
I quote...
The NHS Couch to 5K plan is designed to get you off the couch and gradually work you up to running 5K or for half an hour, in just nine weeks.
The bit to focus on, is the , running....for half an hour
So, so many posts about speed and distance.... this is your journey, take your time and enjoy it... Slow and steady are my middle names.... it works... so many have tried to zoom ahead, because they thought they had to or as in some cases, because they were silly...( not you) and fallen by the running path wayside!
So... stop fretting... this is Week 2! Slow as you like and enjoy!!!
