Well that didn't go very well. Week 2 run 2 completed but I am now suffering intense pain on just below my right knee on the inside of my leg, it feels like I have been kicked by a horse!
You may ask why! Well as usual I my head decided that I am 27 not 57 and I sprinted the last run on tarmac and downhill. That was the daftest thing I have done since the last time!
I sought advice and the following issues came to light:
My cadence is totally wrong.
I am 57 not 27
Stay off the tarmac keep to the woods.
The fix:
Walking only this week and not on tarmac
Perfect my cadence when I get back to running, (hopefully next week)
Stay off the tarmac when I get back to running.
Seriously though, I am gutted that I did such a foolish thing as I am really enjoying getting back out there in the fresh air.
Harsh lessons learnt, I have to say I had never heard of cadence - if you haven't take note, (google it and there is a plethora of info there)
Happy days!

Ooh sounds awful, get down the doctors asap as need to get it checked out, hope you get better soon. Plenty of frozen peas, rest and ibuprofen on your schedule for the week ahead then x
Ouch and double ouch.... lots to think on there...I really empathise
Main thing, when you are rested and recovered.... slow and steady, wherever you run... and no sprinting!
Just be aware at this stage, that we can tend to land heavily.. so light gentle steps when you head out again... also.. although it sound silly... the harder surface may help until you feel normal again... I am just off the IC after a along spell recovering from a torn calf muscle injury. My Sports Physio has given me strict orders to mainly, this first week, use a hard surface and travel slowly and gently...no hills, no beach runnin and fields and tracks only if it is not soggy or muddy!
My third excursion today was on dry fields and a hard track and went okay... walk/runs for 25 mins..
I love his "no hills" order... What an excuse for me not to do them
Simple stretching will help after the initial RICE treatment, and then roller... exquisite torture but so good afterwards..
Run in the way that you find the most comfortable... I know we want to perfect things like style etc, but at this early stage, just running and breathing, however you feel suits you is a plan
