Week 8 run 1. Slow but steady. I was getting bored with the little park at lunchtime and ventured out onto the side roads around Bloomsbury. do ya know it, but I felt like a grown up runner out on the streets! I'm not striding out yet, but kept going until that last 'congratulations, you've done it' voice on the app.

I discovered, that for me, after doing quite strict alternate days up to week 7, I'm feeling better with 2 days in between each run. At 55, and slightly over my green BMI (and Slimming World!) I'm amazed I can do this. Most of it is mental attitude. I try and visualise not how much time is left, but a !pint glass of beer filling up as the distance passes, and the head of the beer is the last 5 minutes! An odd visualisation for me, but one that works.

If there's no aches and pains, the only thing stopping me is my couch brain. I can't say I like running yet, but I feel a sense of being almost in control and achieving something I never thought I could do.

Almost ready to book my first Park Run - don't want to jinx Graduation too soon!

I'm sure I'll do it though. Even thinking about the 5k to 10k. Thinking, mind....

Very, very well done.. especially the slow and steady bit! My middle names are s and s!

Well done for crushing the pesky mind gremlins and for using your mind to get you through.. it works...I run and think and ramble in my head all the time...and suddenly it is the end of the run!

Just relax, run, don't overthink it... just doing that and reaping the physical and mental benefits is fantastic!

The Bloomsbury Runner you know that has a great ring to it, just don't stop for refreshments at Lady Ottoline, otherwise you might find that beer. And as to couch brain, just think once you were in danger of being a cushion as the sofa started swallowing you.... now you're a couch killler. well done and good luck whichever amazing route you choose.
