Heat and hydration

I have just completed day 2 week 2 and have a stinking headache. I realised I had not drunk today and last night I had 2 Friday night beers so in the heat this morning I have dehydrated badly. I plan to drink water throughout the day. Anyone else experienced this?

It's a common phenomenon. It's called a hangover.

I don't normally get a hangover on 2 pints of Lagar, but it was warm....🍻

Still a hangover.

A hangover is mostly dehydration. Same as what you've done to yourself.

NHS Choices states that you should drink 1.2litres of water per day. Your two beers add to that volume, but presumably because of the diuretic effect of alcohol, they should not be included in the count. My daily water intake is at least twice that recommendation. We are all individuals but if you are exercising you need to be well hydrated the day before you run as well as immediately prior to running. I never run without drinking a pint of water or dilute fruit juice just before I leave the house.

thanks, that is very helpful. Short of drinking pints of lime and soda in the pub i will also make sure I drink before running in the morning. I usually run in the evening after work but as I was not due to run yesterday stayed behind to socialize. Thank you for your help, feeling better now as on third pint (of water!) since run 😇

There is a condition called hyponatremia, caused by drinking too much water in a short time, which leads to a lack of sodium in the blood. As with most things, little and often is better than drought and flooding!!

Rehydration salts such as Dioraltye work well for hangovers (remember doctors are ex-medical students)

Oh yes, I remember it well, sometimes too well. I trained as a nurse alongside medics, wild wild times.👌👌👌
