Breaking routine is always a pain for me but the torrential rain and lightning which battered my area of East Anglia on Wednesday morning forced the issue. As for run 2 in week 3 I decided to postpone the session until I got home from work. On that occasion it was early 20s Celsius and fairly uncomfortable after a day of eating and drinking (albeit healthily) and quite stressful work. However, I got through a leggy session and hoped I wouldn't have to do that sort of thing too often.
This time it was humid and 31 degrees Celsius. Tough enough for most experienced runners I would suggest but given the advice from the good folks here and a bit of common sense preparation I decided to give it a shot. This was run 2 of week 6 which is 2 x 10 minute runs with a 3 minute walk sandwiched in-between. The first run was surprisingly comfortable but I must've gone a little too quick as the second session was a real test of mind over matter (the mind was getting fuzzy, the matter very sweaty!). The last 5 minutes was the closest I've got to stopping but a little magic switch suddenly clicked in my head and wind number 2 arrived in the knick of time!
That was the last of the runs with a mid session walk, I'd already got too the point where I believed they were a nuisance, the 20 minute run last week proved that it could be done without. The next big test is the 25 minute run on Friday, hopefully at a much cooler, cleaner air 5:30am with no traffic rather than a boiling hot, dirty air, le mans style affair!
