I'm new here.....

I've recently started the program so, on week 1 :D so excited to get on the move again! After having my son I sort of let myself go a little but, now I'm ready to get back into shape.

I've been on two runs/jogs in the past week and it's definitely a shock to the system, using muscles I forgot I even had ahaha but, I managed at least 3/4 of the way round before I became lethargic, breathless and had a dry throat. This happened on both occasions.

I really am determined to make it all the way around but, it just feels like my body is resisting it.

Any help, tips or pointers? Everything and anything will be greatly appreciated. :)

Welcome and well done for making the step out of the door to start running and getting yourself fitter - this is the hardest part of the whole programme.

If you are getting out of breathe you probably need to slow down. We are all guilty of going off too fast and then regretting it half way round. The aim is just to get you running for a length of time and not a distance so slow and steady is the mantra. For the walking breaks it doesn't have to be brisk - just let yourself recover. You are building up stamina to help you in future weeks. You may also need to relax you upper body as this will allow your lungs to work better.

You know the best tip is the one you've already done. You got off the sofa and started and joined the best running club in the world. If you have issues or want to scream and shout about your achievements, then this is the place to do it. Graduates like SC are very generous with their hints, tips and motivation. Welcome and good luck

If your body feels like its resisting then make sure you have drunk plenty of fluids before going out and also take some with you if possible. Wearing the right stuff (especially the correct shoes) will make it easier on your body also. Just try and start at a comfortable pace and don't overexert yourself. Try and find a nice steady running rhythm too as this will help you go for longer and maintain a good posture whilst running.

The most frequent advice we give to new runners is slow down. It is so easy to start off too fast and then run out of puff. Next time you go out start off really slow and tell yourself if you have anything left at the end you can have a little sprint. 😀
