I never thought I'd ever say this but the thought of resting for four weeks makes me want to cry! ๐ข anyone else had to do the same? Any tips?
Muscle strain - four weeks off: I never thought... - Couch to 5K
Muscle strain - four weeks off
Huge hug..I can empathise completely, especially today!
I was on the IC for a week, ran... problem back...on the IC for another twelve days... just off the IC.... ran Sunday.. problem reoccurred.. and just had Physio appointment.. no running for ten days... then see Physio again and see where we go from there!
When he said today..no running.. I could have wept!!! I am going to think of things to keep me happy... we can compare notes!!!
Chin up... we will come through this!
I'm sad to hear someone else is in the same position but glad to have a sympathetic ear! Fingers crossed the 10 days are over before you know it โค๏ธ
We will get there... !!! Lots to think about and routes to plan)
Still sitting right next to you on that couch! Progress still slow and being as patient as I can be๐๐! Spoke to an ex club runner recently who can no longer run at all due to his knee, so guess I just have to be grateful that my physio assures me I WILL get back. Things could be worse...far worse. Stay strong and keep the faith folks!๐
Not running, but I once got told off couldn't do martial arts for at least 12 weeks.
I was gutted. By this point is already been off 4 weeks because of the injury so I was already bored and frustrated.
So yes, it is frustrating.
But I didn't wait that long. I chose instead to do everything in my power to expedite my healing. This included doing stuff I really didn't want to do, but knew it would help, like going to the public gym, barely able to even walk, and lifting 20kg weights while everyone else was lifting more like 100kg or more. Or going on the exercise bikes with the resistance set as low as it goes.
4 weeks isn't long. Did your doctor refer you to a physio, or is it rest alone? Certain injuries take longer to heal if you totally rest them. The right exercises, as set by a physio or a good, well qualified gym instructor who knows about injury rehabilitation can speed up your recovery in many cases.
It's very frustrating but take the advice and don't go back too soon. Strained or torn muscle takes time to heal and we can't speed up Mother Nature I'm afraid. I had a torn calf muscle a couple of years ago and I couldn't run for 3 months, so my current four weeks of not running following back pain and sciatica is unwelcome but just part of the journey.๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐ฎ
Always remember that any setback paves the way for a great comeback!! Good luck!๐
Sounds very familiar! I was out for five weeks with an ankle injury (not running-related) when I was on week 8 of the programme and I was so frustrated! My biggest worry was that I'd have to start all over again but I hardly lost any fitness at all - I eased myself in with a couple of runs from weeks 3 and 5 but they felt easy so I just picked up where I left off. While I was on the ic, I bought myself some new running gear and made some running playlists as well as loitering on here to keep me motivated too. The wait will be over before you know it. Good luck and try not to beat yourself up about it too much!
Thanks everyone! I had a Gait analysis done today and found out why I'm having problems! Treated myself to some new trainers as a carrot on a stick for me at the end. Who knew 8 weeks ago I'd feel so sad about not running!
