W9R1 after 8 days of Man Lurgy

Well I came down with a chest cold the day before I was due to do W9R1 so delayed the run until I felt better. I'm asthmatic and prone to bronchitis so very wary of chest problems

I was worried about how 8 days off would affect me when I had never had more than 3 days between runs.

I was right to be worried. It was ghastly. I took about 15 minutes to find any sort of rhythm, and by 20 minutes was feeling light headed and all kinds of wrong. But knowing I only had 10 minutes to go kept me plodding along and I just slowed my pace and somehow got through it. Drenched in sweat, coughing and gasping, but I made it.

Anyway I'm glad I did it - and amazed at my progress given I didn't feel much worse after W1R1 - and looking forward to getting through this week and graduating. Hopefully with a lot less mucus by the end of the week!

As an aside on my regular running route I pass a bus shelter billboard for Cystic Fibrosis - which is at about my time of peak distress. Sobering to think what some people have to go through and how lucky I am, Lurgy or not!

Well done for fighting through like that.

I know we women are prone to sarcasm about man-flu (actually Anne-flu is much MUCH worse) but running when you're recovering from lurgy is hard for anyone.

Maybe have an extra rest day before your next run, though, after pushing yourself like that?

Well done...but take care... slow and steady is the way!

Well done SteveD, a true champion to fight on despite it all. I agree you should take it easy and maybe have a couple of rest days before the next one...and of course you are right, cystic fibrosis is such a terrible thing. Good to count blessings :)
