Well, second actually as I did one of the second week's runs outdoors. I have signed up for a 5k in August so need to start moving from indoor running to outdoors. My plan is to do the first run of each week outdoors as they tend to be the lighter run each week now I'm on week 6. I'm also going to put the treadmill on a very slight incline to push myself a little more towards outdoor running. Really pleased I succeeded with week 6 run 1 outside.
First run outdoors!: Well, second actually as I... - Couch to 5K
First run outdoors!
Running outside is where it's at running wise. Opens up all sorts of possibilities that you're never going to get with indoor running
Good luck with the programme. Go very steady. No need to rush or push. Gently does it
Have fun!
I do a lot of my running on the treadmill but like to mix it up and get out when I can, which as you are planning usually amounts to once per week.
One thing I will say is don't put the treadmill on too much of an angle, from memory I think it was something like just 1 degree simulates road and 1.5 for grass... my minimum setting on my treadmill at home was 3.5 degrees which was a lot to start with and I couldn't figure out why it was sooo much harder. I know a lot of people find running outside harder but for me I find that the extra effort required is more than offset by having more control over the pace and having 'stuff' going on around you.
Good luck getting through to the run. I've got my first 5k park run this weekend (which is also my graduation run) and am looking forward to it.
