I don't really know what happened, my mind was up for it and at the beginning it felt like it could've been the best run so far.
Unfortunately less than 1 minute in I got an excruciating stitch. I slowed down a bit and tried to breathe it out- no luck. I slowed down even more and it was still agony.
In the end I managed 17 mins at a limping pace before I called quits and started making my way back home. Walking back now it still kills and I have no idea why!
I've had stitches a couple of times over the journey but I've usually found that by slowing down and controlling my breathing I'm able to at least keep it at bay.
thinking about it now I'm wondering whether I'm a bit dehydrated?
Very frustrating!!

I went out this morning and pulled up after about 2 minutes. I did a lot of driving yesterday and it has left me with a sore knee. I though a good nights sleep and and evening of RICE and I would be fine...I'm gutted. I've never stopped before.
There are a lot of opinions out there about the causes of stitches, from dehydration to what your ate for dinner yesterday. You will know yourself best. Chalk it up to experience and try again tomorrow, or whenever you next intend to run.
Thats rotten Hannah , I am lucky that I dont get stitches . Do you drink enough before you go out ? Some people think its hyperventilating so really concentrate on your breathing . My friend used to say keep patting your tummy where the stich is , dont know she got that from lol but it works for her and she has ran a marathon . I was supposed to run today but bamged my head on the garage door and not feeling great so see how I feel in a while
Up your general hydration in general. I now have an 800ml bottle at work and it goes everywhere, and gets 2 fills during the day. I use squeezy squash so I actually drink it. You should find it helps. I do feel better. Week 7 run 2 down. Hardest so far mentally and physically.
Hydration is essential every day, not just running days.. and I am sure you will get loads of replies on the stitch..the only time I had it I sort of forced my diaphragm down with a big breath..pushing my tummy down ( instead of up)..it worked..some people touch their toes
Take a rest, hydrate well and put it down to a practice
