I'd love to be able to run to relieve stresses of a busy day - BUT I have been diagnosed with osteo-arthritis on both knees and one is so bad that I need a complete replacement. Would I be able to tackle this programme, or is that not advisable ?
question for the group: I'd love to be able to... - Couch to 5K

I would check with your GP first, but this from the website:
There is evidence it may help increase bone density in some people, which can help protect against bone diseases such as osteoporosis.
However, prevention is not a cure.
With you needing a knee replacement I would check with your GP. I have osteo-arthritis on many joints but I have found that building the muscles surrounding the joints helps to combat the pain. Inactivity is the thing that makes my osteo-arthritis worse, if your doctor says it is ok give it a go, if he/she advises waiting until after the surgery ask about walking and muscle building exercisies, you might able able to do those in preparation for building up after your surgery. Let us know how you get on.
Thanks Realfoodieclub, I do attend gym regularly to keep those muscles up and supporting knee, I'm envious of those on here who obviously enjoy running. I realise I have to keep knees moving - or cease up altogether, lol. I'm also putting off replacement surgery until it is absolutely necessary, ie when I can not longer walk !
It may well just take me longer - will keep you informed
Would you not be better doing a cardio exercise that kept your knees moving but did not involves the constant repeated impact of running? The elliptical machine for example?
I've tried those machines and find them totally boring to be honest. I use cycles to warm up and down
