should I do it or not???: hi I graduated in... - Couch to 5K
should I do it or not???
I think as long as you're sensible, and are happy to listen to your body and walk as much of the 10k as necessary, that would seem probably fine. But if you're thinking you need to run the whole thing, then definitely no!
Hey June! We are all different and have different abilities but one thing I have learned through running is to pace myself right and increase speed and distance gradually and in good time. Previously I made errors and pushed myself hard because I felt fine, not too tired at the time and as a result picked up injuries that kept me from running for up to 4 months each time (knee and ankle). Seek proper advice, create your own program, give yourself time, do it carefully, and you will get there!
Run walk might be your safest scenario. We all walk to some extent in races anyway as you have to when you get tired but I mean in the Jeff Galloway sense. There is much written here about the method, and many folks use it for all their races, very successfully. tI might pay off for you in view of the fact that you've not actually reached 10k yet. You have time before race day to have a go at going further than 7k. Try for an 8k. Go carefully though
The last thing you need is to get hurt by attempting 10k before you're ready
Good luck. Let us know how you get on
Thanks for all the advise I appreciate it I have ran 11.5 k way back in early March with a short walk in between but since due to work etc. I have just been out for 30-40 minute runs 2-3 times a week I had my 50th birthday last Friday and sort of wanted to celebrate it with a run I think I could do it ok with the advise you have given me nice slow pace and walk/run the main reason I was questioning myself was I am having a lot of hot flushes complete nightmare!!! very difficult to run in heat.
