Since I seem to have no self control, I completely removed pace from my apple watch display. Now I just have distance/heart rate. I ran today concentrating on keeping my heart rate below 160. Result? Nice relaxed run, with my best 5k time yet (granted I only have a couple of them so far. =) )

I very much agree with what you are saying regarding the pace. I have this pace gadget thing and its distracting to look at it, but it does beep when I have done a kilometre and i can look at the time, sometimes I don't even bother looking at the time but I hear that beep. I don't run with 'laura apps' or any of that ' new fangled stuff' just a gps watch, I rely on the beep, too many gadgets / features get in the way if you ask me.
I hear you Dawn. I guess what I was really getting at though was that if I see pace, it makes me want to run faster (even though I know better). But yes, the tech can absolutely get in the way of just enjoying the run, too!
