So ladies, what shorts do you shake your booty in?

I am looking at getting running shorts and shocking the nation with my short white sticks! So what shorts do you shake your booty in? There are tight shorts of varying length or short baggy Mo Farah types. Tell me the good, bad and ugly experiences please!

I guess mine are 'Mo Farahs', I've got some blue ones, and a pair of orange - those are my colours! I prefer the brights, I tend to go for an orange top with the blue shorts and vice versa - although I also have a green 'Beyonder C25K' vest which looks dashing* with either colour :D I've been back in the shorts since April and loving it, and my runner's tan (from just below top of thigh to ankle) is coming back nicely :) Because the shorts are preeeeeety damn short I tend to wear 'boy' pants underneath for a bit of modesty just in case I find myself sprawling...

*Relative term :)

Is there any chaffing issues at all?

I find I do not usually chafe, but one time when I was out in the rain for several hours I had some slight chafing inside the tops of my thighs. If I was in that situation again I'd reach for the vaseline :)

I've got 'tight' shorts which are just above the knee. I guess I chose those as my legs are a bit chubby and they at least hold everything into place! They are quite comfy and have 'anti-ride' tape on the inside similar to cycling shorts without the padding. Apart from my first couple of runs, I have been wearing shorts since mid-march as I was getting too hot in leggings. Got the start of similar tan lines as well!

I like the look of these shorts in a pos 4 inch length but was worried about them riding up and constantly pulling them back down lol.

How do the sizes work out? Thanks

I'm a large 12 and don't have skinny legs so I got a medium but they are flexible and quite comfy

I switched to shorts several weeks ago when the weather got too hot (recently started C25K). Initially I just wore some shiny and light running shorts, and it was much cooler.

However, they started to ride up and it became an annoying distraction (for me and all the onlookers :P ). I remember having this problem when I ran years ago, and the solution is to wear some lycra under shorts underneath.

I'll happily wear any old shorts so long as I have the undershorts to stop them riding up.

(Sorry for crashing a ladies post, but I thought it might be relevant :( )

No worries about gatecrashing! It is good to hear all stories to help make a decision, thank you.

I second the tight shorts. I had purchased a pair of very short baggy ones, but they ride up the rear end. Never had a problem with the tights ones.

Decent... I have odd legs... they are not overly well covered, and I look odd in ordinary shorts... but the skirt over the fitted short looks fine.. and being slightly more mature I think short shorts could be err. a step too far!

Always good to have some modesty!!

No such thing as a step too far! You should rock the tightest of tights and the shortest of shorts at any age and body type if that's the running gear you fancy.

You haven't seen my legs.. they are not quite the sparrow legs my daughter refers to...but almost!!

in reply toOldfloss

Ahh but they are legs that carry you a good distance, be proud of them!

I dithered about shorts for a couple of years because I am overweight and didn't feel that anyone had done bad enough things that they deserved to see my fat white legs twinkling past :(

However, last year, I said sod 'em all, if they don't like it, they don't have to look, and went on the hunt for long shorts, as it were. I found some in H&M. I was fussy because they had to have a decent zip pocket for my inhaler and my house key, and they had to be in hailing distance of my knees. However, there are some in Decathlon which I now covet because apparently they have *three* pockets. Imagine that!

I bought pink loose ones yonks ago on holiday because it was so hot and I must say they're fab. You get a lovely breeze when you run 🙂

But I was working in the garden all day today wearing a pair of old capris that I cut off at the thigh and they were so comfy I thought I would wear them on a run! Just an idea ....

in reply toIrishprincess

Maybe a bit of breeze while running could be a bonus! At this rate I might be buying one pair of each type lol.

I have short short asics but they have little Lycra shorts already built into them if you see what I mean! I like them.

in reply toShorty7

I have seen those shorts, do you get hot with the lycra insert bit?

Shorty7 profile image

I have to say I live in Bangkok so there's not a lot you don't get hot in, however, no, not particularly. I've found them to be pretty good and they look better with that bit I think, especially at my age. They are still pretty short...
