I run first thing so I come home have a shower and then get breakfast. If its in the week then peanut butter on wholemeal toast and if its a weekend run then porridge or Alpen for me sometimes with fruit.

I shower.. then eat my breakfast... we have a low carb eating regime, so anything is good really!

Favourite wicked treat smoked salmon and scrambled eggs !!!

I wouldn't eat fruit, certainly. Fructose is not what you need after a run. Water definitely. And some protein. Perhaps some good carbs - a handful of oats or a small sweet potato - if ever there is a time you can eat a few carbs it is post workout.

It also depends on how hard/long the workout was. I have just come back from an hour of crossfit and am going to have a Carb Killa bar and half a tub of cottage cheese with a scoop of creatine because it was a tough sesh. Whereas I did a gentleish 40 mins this morning of jogging interspersed with pressups, squats and burpees, and just had a water when I got back.

Hmmm: trying to lose/manage weight.

You'll burn 200 calories participating in a C25K run in the early weeks. So anything that you eat when you get back is going to outweigh all of the good work.

Have a glass of water, then wait for 30 minutes. If you are still hungry, have another glass of water. Our bodies have a hard time telling the difference between being thirsty and being hungry.

My runs are often mid-morning so a banana (or half if it's a big one) is a good option for me.

I've started to have whey protein shakes made with water. They taste like a bit of a treat, only 90 calories, and whey protein is great for helping your muscles repair and keeping you full. That way you are loosing fat but maintaining muscle mass 💪🏻 Xx

I like to run on an empty stomach so usually its either breakfast time or dinner time when I get back, so any Slimming World free foods! If its not a meal time I eat a banana. I like bananas........

I always drink half a liter of water the minute I step in the door and then after a little while - and before I shower - I have something to eat.

Today it was a slice of rye bread with peanut butter and banana. Saturday morning it was oatmeal with milk, almonds, apple and cinnamon.

I feel I recover faster and better if I eat something after a run. But beware of the calories if you are watching your weight.
