6'3" 270 lbs doing my first run tonight in the park since it's both too hot and I'm too ashamed to do it during daylight hours. Hate running, but figured I'd never date again if I kept looking like Grimace. Wish me luck!
Newbie On First Day: 6'3" 270 lbs doing my first... - Couch to 5K
Newbie On First Day
Welcome! Just take it slowly and you will surprise yourself. Good luck for tonight.
Best of luck. No shame in getting more confident in your running before showing anyone. I did a few night runs at the start and then progressed to an off the road cycle path. And I've just done my first daytime road run in Week6. Keep it slow and steady
Good luck for tonight....let us know how you get on. I started in the dark as I didn't want anyone to know but soon progressed to day time.
Welcome! You are on the right path here....
Firstly.. please try not to hate running.... not at this point Keep an open mind? Starting feeling concerned and worried is one thing, but feeling negative... noooooo!
Follow the programme... take your rest days, a bit of extra exercise on those days too.. download the Strength and Flex maybe as many of us did.. or walk, or swim?

The programme , NHS C25K will take you, step by slow step to the Graduation podium, with you feeling fitter mentally and physically...combined with healthy eating, this could work so well! Slow and steady is the mantra on here...
Loads of folk started this feeling embarrassed, and nervous, hidden in black and running away from other people...now, they are out there, rocking it in the most amazing colours and gear... and loving running!
People are too concerned with their own lives to bother about you...honestly! And if they stare.. they are either runners and thinking, "...wish I was running today...", or they are jealous... and wish they were doing it
Not sure where you are in the world...but I and many others can recommend early morning runs...no-one about anyway, pretty much , and it really clears your mind and sets you up for the day.
Keep posting for support and encouragement and loads of great advice. We are all in this together and will be there every step of the way Read other posts too... they are so inspiring!
This is your journey, your path... take that first step with confidence... But now, if you keep posting, you will realise I love my quotes.... so here is one for you...
" The quickest way to acquire self-confidence, is to do exactly what you are afraid to do".
Go for it ?????
It's making the first step (pardon the pun) that's the most difficult. Once you start, you will see that there are all shapes and sizes out there- all running.
Good Luck!
Good luck. You're brave enough to start something new that will do amazing things for your health. Most of us felt self conscious at the beginning but as Oldfloss says we're now out there in the brightest colours and strutting like peacocks.
Each run builds a little bit more confidence so by the end of the programme you're feeling proud.... and fit 🤗
I must admit I hated like running to begin with. Jogging between 2 lampposts was almost impossible ... out of breath and my legs were so heavy. I am still overweight but I can honestly say I love it now. Been jogging for 5 months now and can't remember when my mindset changed. You've started and that's wonderful. You'll get lots of support here. I am so proud of you already.
Being overweight... it's a much bigger challenge for you .. but you WILL make it. 😊
The most attractive thing is self confidence and you will gain this from getting out there and exercising so good for you for starting this journey. Keep it up and it will begin to glow from you, you'll see and, hopefully, you will enjoy it as that's another attractive thing - joi de vivre!👍🏻😊🏃🏼♀️
Really no one GAF what you are doing or look like doing it. If anyone notices you they will most likely be thinking "good for you!" And if they are thinking anything uncharitable, then **** 'em. They're the ones with the problem.
I'm almost 50 and whilst I'm fitter than I was when I started 3 years ago, I've had almost a year off due to illness and I'm self conscious about my fitness level and physique. I work out with a bunch of firefighters half my age who look like ... A firemen calendar. I don't look like that. I can't workmout anywhere near like them. I will never look like them. But we all give it all we've got. And that's all it takes.
