Knee pain

I'm only on wk2 run2, and have run 5k in the past without injury (last time 2015). But the last 2 runs I've had pain in the front of my knees and shins. I just kept running thinking it would subside but it hasn't and has continued during rest days - all walking has been painful since. I'm due to run again tomor - any advice? Thanks, Sal.

Slow it down.... right down.... try and land lightly and relax into the runs...we do sometimes at the start tend to thump or feet down.. with resulting impact ! But, if the pain persists, especially on rest days, maybe get checked out

Aha, I've only just started wearing headphones instead of using loudspeaker, this could be the reason, thanks!

Run as quietly as you can. Short, light, delicate steps. Don't over-stride.

Hi Sally,

Don't run on sore knees that hurt when you walk...

Could be you need different running shoes to support your knee. My hubby over pronates and needed running shoes to support his instep. Have you thought of getting gait analysis done at a good running shop? Could be why you are having knee problems. You may need to rest for a few days til the pain eases before popping on the treadmill. They put you in a neutral running shoe and film you running for a couple of mins. They then see what type of running shoe you need. This service is free in a good running shop and they should be happy to help you.

Good luck😊

Thanks, I've got proper running shoes which I was assessed for (albeit a few years ago). Reading the other replies I wonder if I'm impacting too hard on the ground as I've always used the app on louspeaker until the last 3 runs where I've used earphones so haven't been able to hear myself running!

Hi Sally, the advice of Marky and Oldfloss should help then, but do take care running on painful knees.

Good luck next time out.😊xx
