Fed up of being overweight, sluggish and unhealthy. Would like to be able to run again and feel fit.

I was just like you before C25k and I found that running has really helped my body issues. Start - I promise it will make you feel amazing and even though it's tough in the beginning you'll have such a strong feeling of accomplishment.

I would really encourage you to read the begginner posts of present Graduates. Some of us had been convinced our whole lives we were not able to run. Some of us have medical conditions which make it apparently miraculous we can run even :)

This programme is pure genius. And the Forum is full of valuable advice and inspiration.

If you do want to change your life please do stay and run with us. We are ALL in this together round here :)

Hi Rankint, and welcome to the forum! Why not turn the "I would like to" into "I will"? Download the programme, dust off your running shoes, and take that first step out of the door. One run at a time, one day at a time, you will get there. Keep us posted - this is a great place for finding support and motivation.

Welcome you are in the right place. We'll get you achieving your ambitions, just follow this fool-proof guide:

Step 1 - download the NHS C25K podcast onto your phone.

Step 2 - Go out of your front door (s*d what the neighbours say/think)

Step 3 - press 'play' on the podcast, and do exactly what the delightful Laura tells you.

Step 4 - post back here, let us know how you get on, and ask any questions or for encouragement.

Step 5 - (after 9 weeks) - enjoy the compliments from your family and friends, enjoy feeling more healthy, enjoy a much more positive mental attitude.

Simples!

Just need to add - darn few make it to 5k in 9 weeks. You run at your own speed as the programme is about building up the stamina and ability to run continuously for thirty minutes. Speed and distance then builds on that firm foundation :) I guess the designer thought "Couch to Thirty minutes in about Nine weeks but usually a tad longer" was a bit clunky a title :)

Hey dude im still fat and on week 6 . But im definetely leaner and feeling better (despite todays set back) Trust in the program and do some other cardio along side , maybe some circuit training like i do. IT all adds up. But you gotta want it. Its take me years to feel this determined. Good luck .

I always say it's better to be a bit fat and FIT than skinny and UNFIT.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm early 40s, unfit and very, very overweight. I'm not sure what possessed me but i took the plunge one day and did week 1 run 1. It almost killed me but i stuck with it. I'm now on week 5 and feel really great. I repeat runs as the progression was too quick for my ability. My weight is static but I'm loosing inches. I think I might have caught the bug as I look forward to going out, even though it's hard going sometimes. My advice is challenge yourself to do week 1 and 2 of the podcast. (Even if it takes 3 actual weeks!) See how you have progressed & i think you'll surprise yourself. Good luck - you can do it!

I started as I promised myself last week and am still running!! I have had to repeat Week 1 Day 1 as I was finding the breathing tough (I have mild asthma) but am now on Week 1 Day 2 and finished that this morning. I am out and starting the walk at 7am when it is quiet so I take my dog and we run and walk together. The only problem is if another dog comes along and Toby races away! I have started running in the local park as I found running on the pavements hard, the grass is much easier. I can now say I am starting to get the bug and I have convinced myself that repeating the week or day is not failure and I will get there in my own time. I would like to be able to run 5K within 6 months! And everyone will get the shock of their lives as I have told noone about this!!! Early morning with the sun out and birds singing and in the park is wonderful.
