Never Before?

I ran for 25 minutes yesterday evening and felt great at the end of it. With the 5 minutes warm-up and cool-down walks at either side I covered 2.8 miles. I know that distance isn't important but I find it quite motivating to realise I've moved 16 stone of water muscle and lard so far!

I must admit to feeling a little bit amazed with myself.

A few weeks ago I would never thought I'd be running for that long. Thirty seconds and I needed to lie down for half-an-hour.

It got me thinking and I realise that I have never, ever run for that long before. Playing football and cricket in my teens didn't involve running constantly. Cross-country at school and most of us would start walking once out of sight of the teacher.

The human body must be an amazing thing to be able to adapt to new demands so quickly after decades of not being looked after properly!

On the C25K I'm doing the next run is for 28 minutes. And for the first time I feel completely confident I can make that next step up.

Maybe this sounds a little smug. It's not intended to be. If I can do this then anybody can.

It doesn't sound smug at all! I've got W6R3 up next which is 25 minutes and I'm not looking forward to it after puffing over 2 x 10 minutes yesterday, so this has helped motivate me!

Really glad to hear it has motivated you runlikeagirl. All the graduates advise starting off slow. And they are right. If you can run 2x10 you can run 1x25. Unfortunately, my determination kicks in only after I'm sure I'm fully ready. My trainers must be tied up properly, the podcast must be teed up. My earphones must be at full charge, the ties on my hoodie must be tucked away so they don't slap me in the face.....then once I'm sure I'm ready I go.....slowly. Confident that I've not got an excuse ....

It's magic, and you are quite right to be proud of yourself. Onward and forwards - graduation is in sight!
