Backwards progress may have an answer...

Following my whinge a couple of days ago about the poor runs I've had since graduation, I finally managed to get to the Doc for a follow up on some blood tests (it's only taken four weeks of trying to get an appointment!!) and it turns out I'm seriously hypothyroid. Now although this is bad news and means medication for ever, on the plus side, he is amazed that I've managed to get through C25K and lose a stone since New Year "with these numbers"!!

So I'm looking forward to feeling better in 8-12 weeks and feeling quite chuffed that I've managed so far. I'm expecting it to continue to be tough until the medication works and is then tweaked to being optimised, but I'm working on the basis that every cloud has a silver lining and my running will be my measure of success...

Gosh that's so good to have a diagnosis now and you will feel so much better with the treatment 😎

I'm hoping so!

Wow - think how easy you'll find it in the future, if you have been laboring under that difficulty and still running successfully. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis but at least they know what it is and it's a common thing which is easily treatable.

Do you speak from experience?

No. At least I don't think so... I've recently had a blood test to test for anaemia or hypothyroidism but haven't had the results yet! I've been fatigued by recent runs over the last few weeks. :(

But my friend has been on medication for hypothyroidism for years and is an absolute picture of health. :)

I'm given to understand that once you've got the right level of medication it works really well but that it might take months to get to that. 😟

I think it also depends how severe it is. My doctor was quite surprised I was upright!

I'm just keeping everything crossed. Apparently it could be 8-12 weeks before I feel the benefit- in for the long haul...

My husband is hypothyroid, diagnosed many years ago. He was doing a lot of cycling around the time of diagnosis and once they had his thyroxin levels up to around where they should be it was like he had a new lease of life.

Sorry you are unwell, but glad to hear it is diagnosed and treatable
