Just been asked to join a charity run and have done this 10 years ago . Can I prepare and complete in 8 weeks even if slow ?
Can I train from brisk walking to 10k in 8 wee... - Couch to 5K
Can I train from brisk walking to 10k in 8 weeks ?
My opinion is that with enough motivation just about anyone could - but the real question is what it will do to your body?
I sure as heck wouldn't attempt it except with the goal of running only a bit of it and walking a lot of it...
Just my opinion though. YMMV.
That is a huge ask... I agree with Irish-John ...unless you are going to walk a lot of it...
What is your current fitness level... weight, age ?
I feel, that if for whatever reason you feel you wanted to do this...then maybe use the C25K programme and then, as you would be at Week 8... ( three runs of 28 minutes each... maybe you could happily run some of it :)) And not risk injuring yourself ?

Doing it this way, you would be building up slowly and safely....if it is a Charity run, there is sure to be all levels of runners there...
I know I could not have done it, but we are all different
I would say if you're a regular walker, you could plan for a 10k run/walk, if walking is the majority component. The last thing you want to do is hurt yourself, but I know what it's like to want to participate as well.
Why don't you start the program and we'll help you put together a plan a few weeks before the event. I haven't run in a few months due to injury, and I have an 8 mile event in June that I'm really hoping I can do. My plan might be something like run 1 minute, walk 2 minutes - something similar might work for you.
But - in the meantime start the program and post here. We're here to help.
You could also try doing a brisk 10k walk and see how that feels???
C25k would be a good idea to get you moving carefully.
If you do the event then use run walks, which are great 🙂 Which us what the programme is, most of it anyways 🙂
I think the only way is to do run walk as everyone else has said. That being said, you'll still need to put in some serious training.
I agree with the others. You could do a large chunk of c25k and if you've got some basic fitness you might even be pushing 5k by then. Then you could run/walk the race. If it is a charity run lots of people will be walking. The thing is not to overdo it and get yourself an injury in the process. As some have said above I couldn't have done it. But I could have run 5k and walked the rest. Good luck whatever you decide!
(Oh, and do c25k anyway!)
Everyone is different. Speaking from experience, before C25k, like you I walked a lot. However, for my first 5k run, well after I had completed C25k , so at least 3months of running, probably more, I found the 5k distance hard, even with a few walks.
I would therefore say it is a tough ask and will depend on your current fitness etc.
Have a look at this 10 week run/walk training plan jennyhadfield.com/wp-conten... Keep your running during it down to a slow jog and I am sure that most reasonably fit beginners could do it
It's really impossible to know. I started this programme in late October. I was a regular hiker and yoga practitioner, and not overweight. I have had injury problems - mostly knee - that mean I have reached week 8 twice but not yet completed. I follow the programme and add in strength and stretching. My body is just finding it tough. Good luck!
