I am over 50, overweight and not run since I was at school so was quite pleased that I actually managed to follow the whole program today. And don't feel completely dead now, legs feel a bit tired but not exhausted.
I hope posting progress on here will keep me motivated.
Thanks J

Well done J! You can do this and you've come to the best forum with the most encouraging, kind, like minded people. The first run is often the hardest and we all remember ours! Good luck and keep posting x
keep it up just remember your pace should be like a snail in slow motion . im 55 17 /2 stone and uptil 4 weeks ago i could only run a bath. for me the 1st 3 weeks were hard , if you look at previous posts of cream crackered you will see on wk3 i was crying in my beer . week 4 was a different story , things came together and i smashed it and also smashed the 1st run of wk5 last night . remember as lots of the advice i had is
1 its a slow walk followed by slow jog
2 try to match your breathing to your pace
3 which is my own bit of encouragement to you . you cant fail c25k you can only give up
if a week is proving hard , just repeat it until comfortable
well im 64 and like you never run since i was in school and only did it then when i had too
Dec 16 4 months ago but seems like a life time i was my usual weight that i have been all my adult life 17.5 to 18 stone did vary a few times but was usually up have been as heavy as 22 stone
started to eat more healthy and started walking
then March started c25k and will be doing w6r3 later today .
i have to run for and extreme amount of time well it was not even a possibility in my mind 6 weeks ago
But im sure i will overcome and you will too just listen to the guys on here that have all done it before just go slow and steady and you will get there its not about speed but being able to run for 30 mins as they said to me 5k is still 5k no matter how long it takes .
stick with the plan and with the guys (gals included ) on here and you get all the advice and support you need
That's fab J. Well done for deciding to do C25K. The forum offers such a lot of encouragement. There are lots of us out here - novice runners, loving the fact that we can actually do it!
I was in a similar position just a few short weeks ago. Early 50's, not having run for nearly 35 years (unless it was to the bar at last orders), significantly overweight and breathing heavy after going up a couple of flights of stairs. Now I have the physique of Mo Farrar.....not really! But I have lost a few inches off my waist, I feel much happier and don't puff (as much) doing everyday things.
My advice is to trust the program. The steps do seem quite large and I questioned whether I could make the next step each and every time. A couple of times I didn't manage it but it was all in my mind. I managed it the next time. So can you!
I still have a few more steps to make before I can consider myself a graduate ... but I do class myself as a runner now. And having completed the first step ... you're a runner now too.
So glad I'm not alone in being over 50 and overweight!! Welcome to the 'group' - I hope you enjoy the challenge. So far, I am, though yesterday was very hard jogging (well, more like shuffling!) outside - I just couldn't get going, it felt like my legs were a dead weight but I think that's because I hadn't eaten or hydrated properly! Enjoy and do keep us posted with your progress
