Following recent advice from this forum I tried fartlecking in the park yesterday- the geese were very annoyed but I enjoyed it - and I wasn't too tired the rest of the day!

According to Google .... "Fartlek, which means "speed play" in Swedish, is a training method that blends continuous training with interval training. Fartlek runs are a very simple form of a long distance run. Fartlek training “is simply defined as periods of fast running intermixed with periods of slower running."
I think the idea is you vary the fast & slow bits to suit yourself. For this week's 5k training I've been running 0.8km slowly, 0.2 fast & staggering for 20m! It's worked, no knee or leg niggles; hooray for fartlekking!
