Four deer, a buzzard, two rabbits and a skein of wild geese!

Following the snottiest cold on record I had my first run out this morning in the autumn sunshine accompanied at various stages by the above assortment - sadly all faster than me!

Curiously, if you replace the buzzard with a brace of pheasant, and define 'skein' as 'three', that is exactly what I have hanging on my patio and in the game cupboard. These were not fast enough for me.

You'll not go hungry this winter!

I prefer mine alive and running around...

Are you one of those roadkill eaters or did something go bang? Hope it wasn't lead shot.

But you were out there! Autumn can be a good season for running, provided the colds etc stay away.

Yep, it's a great time of year - cool but bright and glorious colours on the trees.

A skein of geese! What a lovely phrase!

And Rig, I'm envious of the pheasants - Delia's coq au vin recipe is a showstopper if you replace the coq with pheasant. With lots of steamed kale to get all gravy-sodden, and (if you're not being all paleo-virtuous) a gurt pile of creamy mashed potatoes. Heaven.

paleo virtuous, moi? These pheasants became a big tub of Coronation pheasant on this occasion, but faisan au vin is a regular fave in our household.

I am not a fan of Delia, though, I'm afraid. We do have one her books which is used to prop up a wonky shelf, a task to which it is eminently suited.

Allow yourself a few runs to feel strong after being unwell! Great bit of wildlife spotting though, such a lovely thing to run with nature (as opposed to driving past it iykwim! I was given some seriously shifty looks by a field of sheep the other day🐑🐑🐑!
