Thumbs up for the second slow run...

I said I was going to do a hillier route today but as I was going shopping afterwards I ended up running around the lake again. When I ran on Wednesday I was the only person out, so running really slow was relatively easy. Many more folks out and about this morning and I just couldn't help myself from speeding up and passing two women in their early twenties - how pathetic is that! Anyways it was on the last leg of the run so still managed a very slow 6K in 43 mins. Monday I'm going to run around the lake slowly for 5K and do the last one quickly and see how I get on. I didn't feel the least bit tired when I finished my run, no thigh pain at all today and my breathing felt as if it's improved by about 80%. Thanks again for all your advice...now if you could just help me tweak my strength routine ;)

Good stuff. I find just over 7 mins per K to be a good 'cruising' speed too.

I think speeding up in the presence of other runners is something we all do, even if it is sometimes subconscious.

Once you get into the habit of slower, longer runs you might consider some intervals. In my experience Yasso 800s are really effective if you start to do them regularly.

Thanks Dunder2004 I'm going to do my three runs next week slowly and hopefully the following week add in a 'fast' 800m near the end of my run. I'm so glad I posted on here it's made me think about my running. Because slowing down makes it so much easier I'm going to stick with doing 6K which takes me twice around the lake and maybe look to doing 9K at least once a week.
