Come on oldfloss and mcfitty!π
Let's go Parkrun!: Come on oldfloss and mcfitty... - Couch to 5K
Let's go Parkrun!
You!
I am in North Wales this Saturday and next...( and too far from the nearest location for a Park run there.. ) so.. I am going to do my first Park Run on Saturday 18th March.
There.. said it ! x
PS
McFitty ... are you up for it... ? x
Hoorah!π I know you probably like running solo, but glad you're having a go! I shall also be running Parkrun on the 18th March with you! π Perhaps some other members will also run with us on that day! let's drum up motivation!πͺπ
That would be very good.. I am frankly terrified... , so used to just me, running; Also, I feel that after the bouts on the IC, I should be up to par by then...
I was a bit nervous the first time but everyone was very welcoming, especially after the "First run ever? I thought you meant first time here." conversation. There was a wide range of abilities and ages, from under-10s to older than me.
It is just the idea of a lot of people..Not worried about the distance, at all, 5K is the middle distance of my three runs every week... it is just that I am so used to running on my own...
But I will do it
I prefer to run on my own mainly floss.. but Parkrun once a week is the exception..π oh! and also slinky when she gets back and up to speed!π€
You will still be running on your own - even within a crowd. There is no other way to do it - we have to use our own two feet to run!!
Yeah, it was initially weird running with 357 other people but I soon felt comfortable even though the track was very narrow. Everyone spread out very quickly and most seemed to have found their right place at the start so not many people came past me and I didn't pass many others so mostly I was able to run my own race.
There are 3 Parkruns in North Wales, are they all too far from you?π
Ok, I can understand your anxiety running with others. but will make a nice change & experience for you.. I think your daughter runs? Do it with her?π
Unfortunately.. her small one is keeping her to a tight timetable... but I shall head there on my own... maybe go the day before and walk it out, as I have not been in the park there since I was a child.
That's a good idea. I went to our one the week before and cycled round the course after the runners. It helped to have seen what I was taking on before I took it on!
Thing is, if you hate it, you never need to do it again. But you'll be proud that you tried it.
They are... I think for my first one, I would like to do the nearest to me at home...
I'm up for it Oldfloss but not until after 25th March!
davelinks I am going to find you and kill you! π
You are on! He is naughty..but so lovely with it..π
Does this mean I need to run 18th with Oldfloss and 25th with you McFitty ? If so I'm sure davelinks will also run?
I am doing the OCR major series in Kent with number one son on 25th which is why I'm not park running 'til it's done and dustedπ so I plan to make an April Fool of myself at park run on the 1st π
You dare devil McFitty , how far is the run you are doing? You have done so well returning from the IC.
The 1st it is then my friend! I ll be out there with you! πππΌββοΈ
Is that the Royal British Legion Major in Tunbridge Wells?
It is indeed π
Fitty! That wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, just good motivation, so please don't kill me!π¨π
But we'll put the flags out and have some cake when you do it, and also run with you!π
Exsqueeze me davelinks but I do believe your post most definitely said 'come on Oldfloss and McFitty'. However, I shall unload the 12 bore and put away my ninja blades cos you mentioned cake ππππππ
Seriously have to consider getting a ParkRun going in my 'hood... sounds like fun!
How can you be on your own with 400 other runners! not so bad maybe when you're near the back, but if starting up near the front a lot will come past, then they come past again on thier final lap!π
Its only the very fast runners that lap us back runners. Even Im not slow enough to be lapped by every runner, thank goodness. But what is great is that almost every one of those that lap me give a word of encouragement as they pass, Im happy with that!
How many Parkrun's have you done now?π
Morning Dave, just had a look....
I've done 8, four different ones! I have also done quite a few freedom runs on the Parkrun routes which I don't log but I do enjoy! Plus I've volunteered 3 times.
I'd go more often but Saturday comes at the wrong time of the week for our social life teehee. Won't go this week as I have my first 10k race on Sunday gulp!
Ps sometimes I'm not lapped..... that's when I go to my v tough home Parkrun which is a one lap only πππΌββοΈπ
Morning Jacs, a fine morning on my Birthday!
I've only done 31 at 4 different Parkruns and have been bumped at Bushy Park where there were over 1000 runners! think most of them came past me!π I was on my graduation run! Good memories, excellent location & celebrated with a nice bacon sarni at the cafΓ©.
I should have done more Parkruns by now and be in the red shirt club, but I have big problems getting going in the morning's with low mood, so a lot of my running in the week has been up toward midday when I feel better and up for running.
I have my nephew now running at my local Parkrun, he's now caught up with my amount, by going continuously for each week for about 8 months. And also his young son is now in his 8th week at junior Parkrun, so I have more motivation now..π
Yeahhhhhhhhh, happy birthday to you! McFitty will be blowing up balloons as we speak! You will soon get to that 50 Dave! You've got two in the diary with us supporting Oldfloss and chief party organiser McFitty here on the forum, and running with family is always fun.
Ps, do the volunteer sessions count towards the 50? I know you volunteer sometimes ππΌ
Think it depends on what you volunteer for, some of the faster runners get the run in then do scanning, guy I know does it, but he gets round in 20 mins! Don't think I'll get there!π I did volunteer as tailrunner on Xmas Eve which also gives a run credit..So you don't lose out, it explains it all on the Parkrun website, and there's also a loyalty points system..
πππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
i will be running on that day i'm sure Floss will be lovely to have you (virtually) there
Eeek! I have time to get a tad more fit !
you'll be fine! you are speedy stripey snail remember! Is SIL around for moral support? and are you taking hubby and little mum/little baby along to support grammy?? or going it alone??
WOW! I am impressed and started to think about doing ParkRun myself. I was thinking about going to one when I finish the c5k.
Where will you be running? Anybody in Oxford or close to it?
Oldfloss - Go girl! You are braver than I am! I will be doing my regular run thinking and supporting you in my head and heart.
