Nine months ago, I was looking at my iPod and wondering if I was ever going to do anything about the Couch to 5K Podcasts that I had downloaded. Other than one attempt at doing one of them, somewhat deflated by the discovery that as I tended to listen to Podcasts at 1.5x I wasn't actually doing more than 40 seconds, they'd sat there for months. I'd not done anything like this ever, and I wasn't sure if I could even cope.
My first run was round the inside of my house, to the complete bewilderment of the dog, and although it wasn't terrible (except for the sense of dizzyness) I still wasn't sure about it. After all, age 43, about 20 stone, never really done much sport outside of school days other than occasionally play Badminton - really? Could I ever be a runner?
Today, about 2.5st lighter, I used the excuse of dropping the other half's car off at the garage on the other side of town to get a run in first thing. Wasn't sure what to choose, ended up going for Stepping Stone. from 5K+.
Now, I know that the general trend was downhill, but I think I might be getting the hang of this... the 150bpm seemed gentle, the step up to 155 no problem, I was feeling good, even the five minute blast at 160 to finish with wasn't a problem - I was even lengthening my stride a bit towards the end... and my Fitbit seems to think my heart rate didn't get above the Cardio zone, indicating that I could still have put more in. Distance run probably about 4.3K in 30 minutes. I've been wandering around for the rest of the day feeling good about myself, and trying to work out where and what my next run will be - and what the next challenge to set myself is!
So if you're looking at the forum, thinking, "will I ever really be able to do this" - well, in all probability you can!
